Running in service - how important is it really?

Not strictly CSL, but a friend of mine is looking at an e46 M3 at the moment.

~80k, priced at around £8k and I think he can get close to £1k off that. Nice car according to him but it has no record of the running in service.

My question is, is it really that bad to have a car without?

We were wondering if the running in oil is different...

The running in oil is thinner and very important it's changed. I would not buy one without knowing the running in service has been done

Id think at 80k its not going to make that much odds now.

Agree with Paul but there is plenty of choice out there.....why take the risk ?

What is the worst case - engine goes pop and he needs to source a replacement from a breaker?

My CSL has had its done on time and my M3 before it, but do they actually detonate if not done?
