Wow. Damn VRT probably still rules it out though
I tried checking but you have to refer the car to Rosslare. The new online checking system is a balls as they've removed the majority of niche cars..

Yeah, I reckon the VRT would still be fairly steep on it here Niall, and a lot higher than what they're quoting for CSLs now

I think its Vehicle Registration Tax - the original posters were Irish, so i'm guessing to import that car from the UK to Ireland you must have to pay it on top?

It's a rip-off tax in Rep of Ireland Shim. Any new car sold here has this added to the purchase price, which is why an E92 M3 here costs over €100K. They also apply this tax (on a sliding scale for the year) to imported cars, and a 2003 CSL is currently costing €5500 to bring in. Then you've annual road tax of €1566

Also they base the tax on 36% of a value they determine for the car, not what you actually paid so for the GT3 they probably still value it circa €50k which would mean €18k import duty

UK plates are a bit of a give away in the south. They'll impound the car if you're caught plus a fine, which is more than likely as 90% of their tip off's come from jealous neighbours..
