Default Idle Control Valve

Had intermittent limp mode with EML warning light for a while now. BMW have had a look at the fault codes and it's showing a fault with the Idle control valve.

Anyone had this?

Change of personnel at my dealer and they're now suggesting that they'll 'have to see' whether 'the warranty company' will pay out, given that I've got the Supersprint system fitted.

Will let you know how it plays out...

If they dont pay out, it might be worth removing the intake and then the ICV and having a go at cleaning it out first. Whats the mileage on your car?

55,000 miles

They've already changed the part now. The part itself is only around £100. It's the several hours of London labour rates that are of more concern...

It's still with the dealer. They were concerned it's still hunting on start up (goes up and down the rev range a few hundred rpm), but I told them it's pretty much always done that since I owned it. It stops if you turn the AC off.

The fault has gone though.

Ask them to reset adaptations and update all necessary DME and SMG software versions to the latest ones.

replace the piping too that leads to the ICV if it still hunts after reset etc.

Had my ICV cleaned recently and it still intermittently hunts, but not like before where it would have a slight hunt no matter what (without A/C on).

I think I may just get a new one a bit later as it drives me nuts knowing it hunts now and then without the a/c on.

All I do is give the loud peddle a poke and then no hunt.

P.S. My mechanic told me you don't need to remove the airbox to get to the ICV. I'm not sure if this is so but beats taking the airbox out if true.
