Exclamation Castrol is no longer BMW recommended engine oil

Even more reason to bring our own oil for the next scheduled service from now on: http://www.bmwblog.com/2014/11/10/bm...-oil-supplier/

This won't change the correct oil for our cars though, it isn't as if they have gone back in time and redesigned the engine is it. Or have they???

They're recommending their new 10w-60 oil now (which is likely rebadged Shell Helix 10w60). Probably safe for the engine. It's not like Castrol was special enough to prevent rod bearing or cam failures.

BMW have reverted back to their original supplier 'SHELL', the Castrol collaboration is relatively recent 1999 all BMW's before then were run on Shell as per their Service Manuals.
I wonder if this is financially motivated or has the cost of replacing engines had something to do with it?
