Yeah great cars the E39 M5,just keep one eye on the oil,as they do tend to burn a drop or two.

pre face lift models, like mine, could continue to drink 1/2 litre every 500 MILES

i worked out in my 97k miles mine cost me £2000 in OIL but never had a problem as long as you keep filling

had mine for 4 years and it was superb. RS6 after it was boring by comparison.

Ssssweeeeet Congrats I remember having a chat with you about the merits of the E39 over the E60 ... http://www.cslregister.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3584
... now you bought yours, I want one
One thing to keep an eye on the pre face lift early E39 M5s like yours (1999-2000 up to W reg) is the Vanos issues caused by defective O-ring seals letting the oil drain out of the high pressure chamber after the engine's stopped but it's a simple matter of replacing the before mentioned O-rings and sometimes adding an electric pre-charge pump to build up pressure prior to cold start up. There was also an inherit weakness in some of the early m5 engine blocks not bedding their piston rings properly, causing higher then normal oil consumption. Since yours is very low mileage example it may have escaped these problems or had them addresses already, either way I thought I'd mention it to you so you're in the know. Stunning car and the "BEST" colour IMHO
If you're interested I have a personalised number plate you might like for it

And this will suprise Glendog but already looking for AP's.....it has BC coilovers and supersprint exhaust for starters and I see a trip to Simpsons in the future for a healthy 550bhp maybe...Anyway a few pics after picked her up today..

Thanks for the advice Matt. Actually went looking for a 2001/2002 car but most have 80k plus on the clock. Saw a few 2001/2002 cars in 'excellent' condition in the clssifieds.....bloody shit when I got to see them. When this car came up with 55k on the clock I just had to take a look...2 owners, great history, low miles new it was the one. The chap did 70 miles a day in it on the motorway so need to get the stone chips sorted on the bonnet and one of door mirrors has a few but other than that it certainly doesn't look or feel 10 years old....I LOVE IT...

The vanos stuff was sorted under warranty at 36k and thanks for the offer of the plate but already have one to put on.

Roll on my first track day....

NICE sounds like a good-en U be careful out there on track. The M5 is a bit heavier then the M3 CSL but U wouldn't have guest it from the driving seat
