The second issue is that you have to take the engine almost entirely apart to do the job, so there's a lot of very tempting "might as wells" to do at the same time. If you're changing the followers why not the springs and if you're changing the springs why not the valve and you'd better change or refurbish the oil pump and perhaps a new head gasket...

So it's probably going to be more than £4K, if you can get hold of standard lift aftermarket cams AND, here's the major taboo, you're happy to own and sell on a CSL with non-standard engine parts. Perhaps I'm overthinking it.
And when they pulled all the engine apart, clips break, hoses need replacing, all of which adds up - but BMW because they are BMW cover under the warranty, as they won't put the engine back together any other way than 100%.

A specialist would probably be able to keep costs down as they would try and re-use many parts that BMW would replace as a matter of course.

Just cancelled mine yesterday, it was ~£77 per month for comprehensive with £250 XS, I decided that with all of the other commitments I have and the fact that I only do about 1500 miles pa meant it was worth the "risk" of not having it......let's see if sods law strikes now the next time I go out!

Personally never spent on warranty, just but my cash into service parts, keep in fine fettle that way , but can only blame myself if something goes goes bang,

I binned my warranty this year, only do about 200 miles a year in the car now and it hasn't been to the Ring for about 7 years. I'm just mentally banking the warranty renewal money for the time that I need a repair.

I don't see the point in spending all that money for your car to be sitting at the dealers for a year waiting for cam shafts (or whatever else isn't made anymore).

I avoid any modifications for this reason but I know many owners that run a few mods and BMW are fine with it.

Someone told me that Elms in Cambridge (called Barons now?) are ok with mods?
