They're fairly strict about it, and the customs and exise lot swoop quickly on anyone they think is now resident and still on a UK plate. I've even heard stories of them setting up check points outside the Intel plant in Dublin and pulling over anyone with a GB or NI plate on the car. I think officially you're supposed to declare the car to them by the end of the day after you bring it in

The only way around it is if you have lived abroad for more than 12 months and then move here with a car that you've owned for more than 6 months. I did that a couple of years back with my 335d and saved a VRT tax bill of over €10k

Heard it was madness out there got a couple of friends over there one in Dublin and he has a 635 Vert pays mad money for that

Whereas they value a B5 RS4 at €3688, so the VRT on that is just €1300. It even states on their site that the car was subjected to 96% depreciation in the last 10 years! Sure it's just an old Audi

Maybe it's a "Choice" vehicle for the New Irish Government
