Default Warranty Question & thoughts.

Right, my BMW® warranty is up for renewal in the next few days and I had a couple of questions.

Lets say I go for the comprehensive policy with a £200 excess. This costs £690. If I then take the car in if I suspect there may be a problem, will they charge if I send the car to them to take a look before they start any work? In other words, can I get the car sent to them to diagnose the problem before I then decide to go ahead and invoke the £200 excess? Has anyone done this before?

I will only be driving the car 3k miles a year and I can't see myself doing more than 1 trackday a year. Part of me is wondering if BMW® warranty is even necessary if all the bits have been sorted out recently. Resale is not an issue because you can buy a lapsed full BMW® warranty which I could always negotiate when selling the car. If you do buy a lapsed BMW® warranty do you have to continue to pay the lapsed warranty price in your 2nd year?

I think I will renew the BMW® warranty but considering the mileage I'm not sure whether it's worth going for the no excess comprehensive warranty. Lets say I have only 1 claim a year (in which I can get more than one thing checked) the total price including the excess would be £890 which is still cheaper than the no excess warranty price.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Yes mine is up in just over 4 weeks. I will be taking out the £0 excess warranty. I plan to do quite a few track days and a few trips to the ring so i feel its a must!

My car goes in tomorrow for a new rear spring free of charge! Which is only very small amount but still a saving!

Mine is up for renewal on monday. Im intend on doing a few track days this year and doing the Ring trip as well, so I really need it for piece of mind. Not sure whether to go fully comp, or just named components to cover the expensive bits. Anyone know what exactly that covers btw?

It is alot of money, and perhaps for yourself its an overkill for the mileage, condition, and what you do with your car. There's nothing to stop you adding it at any point...

Not sure whether to warranty my ol mans car too. Its due next week also, but he doesnt track and does 4k pa.

All the expense comes at once

Well Ive just bothered to look.

HERE (click Insured warranty - top left) it explains what each Comp/ Named / Driveline Covers
and
HERE for ease of comparison.

Looking at them all, I think Named Component is the best option for me.
Mainly because I dont have:
• Front and Rear Suspension (Have KWs, and new front arms)
• Air Conditioning System
• Park Distance Control
• Satellite Navigation
• In Car Entertainment Systems

Yeah this is doing my head in. I think I might go for the £200 excess comprehensive which costs £690. If something big goes wrong I won't mind paying the £200 excess and it it's something small then I'll just get them to check a whole load of other things while they're at it to justify the £200 excess. If you ask the dealer to look at the RTABs, springs, diff etc. then regardless of whether there's anything wrong with them you are getting a check up for £200 along with the actual bit that you have sent it in for. Anyone know how they deal with clutch slip/slur under warranty?

In the early days under manufacturers warranty they changed a few but the slur is down to the way your driving.

Dont lift off at all between shifts and it'll disappear after a good run.

How much would i save on the full £0 excess without having these on tho?
