Default BMW Warranty, or not?

New here, blah blah blah, first post etc....

I have deduced the following from a great deal of reading of guides etc... and want to just check-out/validate my thoughts. I'm going to buy a CSL and will probablyu put quite a few miles on it so need a little buying advice.

1. BMW Warranty...it's the one to have! All others are crap and without it you *could* be looking at huge bills? TRUE/FALSE

2. If the car doesn't have a warranty now then BMW will sell you one (£2k ish) but ONLY if the car has a FULL BMW SERVICE record? And this means that you must have your pants taken down by the local BMW dealer forever. TRUE/FALSE

3. No warranty, no FBMWSH, over 60k = eeeek; run as fast as you can? TRUE/FALSE

4. Sod it, a good independent garage is better than BMW and the money you save buying miley, non BMW-serviced cars can go straight into the engine/SMG savings fund (or on hookers if that takes your fancy). TRUE/FALSE.

Ta all and sorry if this is well documented....

Buy the best/lowest mileage car WITH BMW FULL service history AND BMW warranty. My car was mint, perfect 20k mile car, small noise on the front of the car, went in, they found £900 worth of little warranty jobs to rectify. Imagine SMG or engine failure, suddenly your high miles/cheap car/no warranty dont look so cheap does it?

I'm not sure but, BMW might put a warranty on the car even if it was serviced by a BMW Specialist like Munich Legends or similar. Not 100% sure however, sorry to through more spanners into the works mate.

Have you tried contacting BMW Customer services? Might be worth talking to them, you never know.

My car is due for its service,i rang bmw warranty and asked if i could take a warranty out if i have a intependant service done. They said its fine as long as its done at correct time and approved parts are used.however once warranty is in force i think you then have to use main dealer for servicing so im using thorney as found main dealers in my area to be useless. So seems you dont need full bmw history which is nice.

Hi all,
So am I right in reading this, if your BMW warranty has expired you can still get it renewed albeit at more money?

Also, if you have mods, like suspension, exhaust, brakes etc, do BMW just not warrant parts related to this work or are they going to avoid paying out?

Cheers,
Jeff

There are always good private sale examples around that also have BMW warranty - that is transferrable of course. That's how i bought mine

BMW owners love BMW warranty cars - even though a specialist does alot better job, beats me but thats the way it is with BMW owners it would seem

My first M3 i bought private - 3 weeks down the line the VANOS packed up - cost me £2.5k to fix Had i paid the extra and bought an approved car or car with BMW warranty then i would have saved. The amount the car cost in the end with the repair was about the same anyway!

So! Onto buying the CSL, not to bitten twice i bought the car from an independant dealer (with FBMWSH upto that point), but making sure i got a comprehensive warranty at the same time from them, it cost me £600 for the year, and to press ive not had to claim, sods law i guess! Not sure when it comes upto renewal what i'll do, renew with them? Renew with BMW? or keep the money for hookers ... hmmm

I'd have no issues buying a higher mileage car without FBMWSH and using the savings to upgrade / repair it aslong as i could get one cheap enough, but i'm in the minority it would seem

MartinDower as in SELOC?

I renewed first year it wasn't covered by the original warrenty and didn't make a single claim, I didn't bother the 2 years after that. Maybe luck of the draw but there are plenty of others who haven't got a warrenty and get along just fine.

I'd keep a full BMW history anyway as they can be pretty generous with good will claims from what I've heard - paying 80 odd percent of the bill on 9 year old unwarranted M cars with Vanos failures for example. The servicing bills aren't very high anyway, average of about £500 every 10k miles or so - you could get servicing done at BMW for the stamps and get everything else done at one of the specialists?

You forgot to add Simples on the end

Defo get warranty, its easy to spend way more than it costs and you wont be tempted to cut corners when getting work done to save£££
