Default Porsche 996 GT2 - thoughts

I'm thinking of getting a 996 GT2 (keeping the CSL) comfort. Does anyone have any experience of these that they'd like to share please?

The one I'm interested in is Polar Silver, has 36k miles and is coming from a posh dealer so should be okay (or at least covered by their warranty).

I' guessing that it'll be similar to my 996 turbo (which would be going as part of this deal) but I know it had a harsh reputation when it first came out.

Too expensive for the car? The one I'm looking at has 36k miles for 100k

That seems about right price wise...

Horses for courses but at this price point I'd personally be looking at Macs or if you can save a bit more and go 991 GT3

Fantastic car needs to be treated with respect.

You'll see different reviews on it as it is very sensitive to set up.

Suggest that the first thing you do is get it corner weighted and geo done.

I used Chris at Center Gravity and recommend him highly.

Sounds like a cheap car! I would go for it there is a 37k one for £109k.

GT2s based on the stronger mezger engine as the 996 GT3 and turbo. Rear wheel drive makes it a better drive than the turbo.

From a numbers perspective the GT2s are rarer than turbos and GT3s driving much of the recent price increases.

I suspect a bit more expensive to run than GT3s...but then if you've had a turbo then probably in roughly the same range.

...just make sure it is a straight car as many are not...a proper inspection is advisable.

991 gt3 will get cheaper imo.

I think soon the 7.2RS will supercede the 991.1 RS as well.

It's a numbers game. 991 gt3 and RS are produced more much than the previous gen. In fact, rumoured to be about 6500 991 RS worldwide. which is ALOT considering the 7.2RS was only 2600.

996 GT2 is indeed a rare beast. I keep telling myself I should have bought 1 when they were selling them for 40+k

If i were you i would look for a really nice 997 GT2 RS before the values start climbing. On the other hand the new 991.2 GT2 RS will come out at the end of 2017. I was sold mine a couple of months ago and now it's on the market again for 398..
