Default Servicing question

The CSL is due a service now based on time (2 years) rather than mileage.
Previous services were:-
- 02.04.2012 29,117 miles Inspection 2
- 29.05.2015 31,392 miles (accidentally let that lapse by one year) Oil service.

Current mileage 31,851

BMW are saying that the car now needs an inspection 1, which is a lumpy £ 684.46.

Am I in a position to say that the car doesn't need the valve clearances do not need checking on this occasion and can they adjust the service cost accordingly, since the car has only done 2,734 miles since the last time they were checked?

Also - did I read somewhere that BMW offer 50% discounted servicing costs on cars that are more than 10 years old, or was that a one time offer?

I'd like to keep the serving as it should be to keep good provenance on the car, so I'll probably end up just biting the bullet and having it done - just thought I'd ask if anyone else has got around this?

One other thing to add in - I no longer have the BMW warranty.

Hi,

I don't think they will agree on skipping the valve adjustment part. Even if its only done so few miles. If its part of the inspection it needs to be carried out.
But i guess that depends on the relationship with your dealer.

It's not unusual to see 2 oil services inbetween Inspection services with very low mileage cars.

If you're going purely on mileage, then valve clearances are done every 30k, if you're only doing 2-3k a year you can justify that extra oil service inbetween.

That said, if you don't want questions asked if/when you come to sell and you're looking for top money, every aspect of the car should be faultless. Including the service history.

Hope that helps.

As Monkey says,if you want top dollar come sell time you can't really skimp on serviceing, even though we all know it doesn't really need it.I would do what it takes for the sake of a couple of hundred quid, imho of course

You're probably right - I'll just bite the bullet. Although having seen some Jaguar E-types that look like scrap that has been stored at the bottom of the sea for 10 years fetch £50k - I do wonder sometimes............

I was in a similar situation car had done about 2 k since last valve adjustment,so I said do everything bar valve check as it's a waste to strip down for such low miles.
They adjusted the price but stated on invoice that customer asked for valve check to not be done.
I'm sure any potential buyer would understand that it was not required.
