Just had the ECU and SMG update. It turns out my car have never had one ECU was 2003 and SMG were 2004 factory programs.
Didn't have time to push for redline shifts but overall SMG adjustments seems sportier. Early downshifts even on auto mode. So far so good.

Also you can do this quite easily on your own if you have the right cable and software via winkfp ... it takes like 8 minutes to do. If you are worried with screwing something up just buy a second hand SMG module and flash the CSL Software ZB onto it with your vin .. easy peasy. They are exactly the same hardware wise, just run different software.
If you ever wanted to downgrade, looks like old versions of DIS have old SMG software. V39 seems to have 7836386. I can't figure out how to put the files back together though, so you'd probably have to flash with DIS itself

I've done it before on a Footwell module for a Mini - downgraded newer software back to older version from v32 SSS but I can't quite remember how I did it now ... but it wasn't hard from memory.

Whats a load of rubbish mate?as far as my own personal csl ive owned for 5 years goes.i had my software updated to whatever the latest release was.now i was told it was the 9th update so far and was done with an autologic tool.the company that did mine is very reputable and the tech is a personal friend of mine so i see no reason they would lie about the update number.now that particular day the machine had an update done in the morning so i got the software that came out that day!

As for what it did anyone on here can drive my car against theirs(non updated)and tell me its the same if not softer!

Mine is super aggressive the s3 gearchange is almost like s5 and s5 is a whole new level also the down shift has been made more aggressive it blips higher up the rev range.i cant speak for anyone else but i noticed the difference on mine cos i had only the fourth update on mine so it was 5 updates out!!as i was told

Its only £50 someone try it for yourself and report back im happy and billy drives my car regular and he noticed the difference without saying!!

I stand by my statement above that it's a load of rubbish because you've just turned your CSL SMG software into a standard M3 SMG software if their 9 versions are from any of the ZB numbers above. That's the screenshot from the STOCK STANDARD M3 SMG software ZB number and supersessions - you are right .. there's been 9 versions of those.

Money not well spent sorry if that is the case - If you want it corrected to the latest version ask Alex (Karbonkid) to hook up the latest diagnostic laptop I just made for him and I can remotely update your SMG module back to the correct software version using BMW Factory tools for nothing.

If you want to check the software version, open INPA and look at the Code screen with F3 and if your "Assembly Number" is from any of the 9 above, then congrats, you've just downgraded your SMG to a standard M3 - you don't have to believe me, just log on realoem.com and check the part numbers from the screenshot above..
