Default "Modified" CSL warranty claims

Still have an ongoing battle with BMW warranty about fitting a Milltek and warranty being void. Has anyone had any recent claims with a modified exhaust ?

Thanks

When you renewed your warranty was the exhaust fitted?

You were entering into a contract at that point, they ask if it is standard, ie no modifications, not if it has been modified in the past. If they noted the exhaust to be fitted on last years warranty then this would be my angle of attack.

Use this point, and the fact that an exhaust backbox will in no way cause the engine to fuck up. We know its bollocks, they know its bollocks. Get a solicitor to squeeze their bollocks.

I doubt anyone will stand up and say yes to your above question as BMW could just void their warranty on the basis that they have void your warranty

Its a difficult one as the warranty is aftermarket, harder to argue against this, than it would be to argue against a new cars 3yrs warranty. As you pay for it on the basis that you are telling the truth re the mods.

Good luck

I've never had any issues with Warranty regarding my Milltek. Even to the point of replacing hanging brackets on the exhaust despite it being aftermarket. It depends greatly on which dealer you go to. What was the warranty claim regarding?

I've made 2 warranty claims since owning mine. Car was modified on both occasions (exhaust, brakes, etc), both claims honoured fine.

As Baz says, it depends on the dealership and how they 'put the claim' to the warranty department...

Who did you use then Rob?

It pisses me off that BMW can be so inconsistent with these kind of things, but then that's what happens with these multi-national, multi-billion pound companies...

I think we do pretty well to be honest Dan, the fact that there are dealerships out there who are prepared to bend the rules and carry out warranty work on an 'obviously modified car' is not a bad thing.

Imagine what it would be like if the dealers all rigidly followed the rules mandated in the warranty policy document - very few CSLs would have any form of warranty work undertaken - much like what happens at Porsche with their anal warranty claims system!

We all know of the BMW dealerships who are 'warranty friendly' after all...

+ 1 had my fair share of most claims, with wheels / brakes / clubsports exhaust and re-map all honoured.

It looks like it needs a new cylinder head, it's only when the dealer has contacted BMW head office the claim has been rejected. Certain claims have to have HO approval and it had been noted on a previous service the exhaust had been fitted - car's all back to standard.

Exhaust wasn't fitted when the warranty was taken out.

Bought the BMW warranty because I thought it was quite comprehensive - pretty sure a warranty direct claim would of been honoured.

I understand what your saying, it's the old glass half full or empty thing isn't it, it is positive that some of the dealerships do honour these claims and we are very fortunate for that, I was just looking at it from a negative perspective which probably isn't the best way...

I just feel sorry for those that don't manage to get what others do I guess

Mine had been at the dealers for 4 weeks, everything approved and going to schedule and then realised the cylinder head wasn't right, HQ and Mondial get involved and warranty gets chucked out.

If you think anything major has gone on your car get rid of the mods asap and make sure they aren't recorded anywhere.
