Default Inspection due on time only

As titled I shall have to check whether it is an Inspection I or II. My question really is should I just get an oil service? I think that i have only done 1,000 perhaps 2,000 miles since my last service. I know, I know It is exacerbated by the problem of having a tandem garage and a GT3 and minimal spare time.

I dropped my BMW warranty last year as I was doing minimal mileage then. I am just short of 40,000 miles and just think it is a bit of a waste getting a complete service when most of the bits have barely been used. Oil is the exception of course.

So for those doing minimal mileage and no warranty, are you still sticking to the service schedule. I should perhaps sell but how do you sell an icon and it would have to be replaced with a GT3 RS. Look at 997 GT3 RS prices though !!!

What effect on selling would it have? These cars are eleven years old now and personally I think fall into a slightly less rigid category when it comes to servicing.

Thoughts appreciated.

If I wasn't thinking of selling ever then I would just get done what is needed, if you have an eye on selling at any point I would get whatever service is done by a recognised garage and the book stamped.
I changed the oil and filter when I got mine back in February, but it was due an oil service in July. I got it done anyway and the book stamped. As the value of the cars go up so the buyers will become more picky, and a service history of annual services in the correct order irrespective of mileage is probably worth more to the price of a good car than the cost of the work.

I have a warranty so my hand is forced with an oil or inspection service every two years. But I would probably still follow that schedule even if I didn't have a warranty. This is for a 3-4k miles a year un-tracked car.

It means 4 years between inspections, but that only equates to about 12k miles. WRT oil I am currently thinking every 2 years.

Combined with an annual MOT and 'vehicle check' from Simpsons, I think it strikes the right balance between over-servicing and maintaining a good service history.

I don't want to sound melodramatic but you have a 40K miles csl which in the current market is of considerable value.

Its a no brainer on the servicing.....get it done @ the recommended intervals and maintain the car's pedigree.

It may one day be worth the same as a 997RS!! ()

Ha, ha you mean worth £120,000 in twenty years time when 997 RS are 240,000 and Starbucks and Facebook are paying real amounts of tax

Looks like she will have to go in. I still have not got the airbag done so that as well. What are the prices on Inspection I and II now? Having tried to stay off here for a year (and failing) is it Murketts or Bartlett that are the new place to be/go? My brother is up the road near Peterborough which was handy for the last place.

I, for one, will vouch for Bartlett's. All the folks in there are great to deal with and really know their stuff

Think the InspII in there is £750 with valve clearances

Yes talk to Bartletts. If I remember correctly they say it is more important to check the valve clearance on cars that are only driven now & again.
