Default Pilot Sport Cup Differences

I was about to put on cups for my trackday tomorrow, but then I noticed, that not all my tyres were the same. In in the end I kept the F1's on hehe.

Anyway, I recieved all these tyres from the same person, but I noticed that some seem to be different.

I have heard about this Cup and Cup+ dilemma and thought that this was it. However I am not sure and I am posting so that you can tell me what's up

It appears that I have some N0 front cups, which are suited for porsches. Are these the same as the cup+? Will they behave like the PS2's then? Or cup tyres?

Would it be ok to Run front N0 tyres and rear proper cups? I am a little bit confused here.

Got some pics to show ya what I got.

Also wanted to ask, if I've got a cup tyre from 2003, is that considered to old to be run?

The general concensus is that the cup+ and N0 etc are not quite as good as the cup. They sit in the middle of the ps2 and ps cup.

You should be fine on them though.

Not quite, you can get N0 and N1 Porsche Approved Cups in Cup and Cup+ (see link below)

Cup+ have the extra groove and wider channels - they are better in the wet but in between PS2 and Cup in the dry.

Looking at the chart with 235/35/19 you can get aparently Cup, CupN0 and Cup+ N1. I dont think there is any difference in the first two, same look just N0 samped on the side. Cup+ N1 however are the not so grippy ones

As for too old, when you see the canvas showing through

But too many heat cycles also has a detrimental affect on grip but Cups dont seem as prone to deterioration thru heat cycles as other brands. the Cups there look fine and the Cup+ worn but still very usable. Dont forget the less depth in tread and the more wear on the pattern, the more rubber touching the tarmac

Note the 265/30 only come as standard BMW fitment and 265/35 are Cup+ for E92M3

Vanya, Pirelli Direzzas are FAR superior to Cups IMO

Ok but if you look at the pictures I showed you then you can see that the N0 DO have an extra groove in the tyre...

Does this mean that I have Cup + tyres? Thats what Im trying to figure out... So when I put these suckers on I will have less grip on the front compared to cups.




As far as dunlop direzza, you confused me Adam. Pirrelli dont make direzzas, im guessing its the Dunlop Direzza? The dz03? Ive heard alot of good stuff about them, but they dont have CSL fitment options, with regards to 19" wheels...

Ok, if you look at my first post i said that Cup+ have an extra groove around the tyre and wider main grooves - two of your Cups are Cup+, the two on top.

If these are labelled N0 or N1 i beleive that to be pretty irrelevant as it just signifies they are approved Porsche tyres but not that they are not suitable for other cars. they are the same size, same load and speed rating. BNot usre why thye are N0 as i thought that in Cup+ they were only labelled N1

The bottom two are Cups (full fat) as original to the CSL.

Guess I will just run these Cup+ tyres till they are done and buy myself some cups later

I run old cup+ tyres for trackdays at knockhill as it eats cups
they are better than a PS2 but not as good as a cup like the lads have said
