Default 1M Production numbers

I was under the impression the 1M was a limited edition (given UK cars all come with a plaque saying 1 of 450). However i've also read BMW changed their mind and production (whilst only run for 1-2yrs and not collossal for RHD) was not strictly limited by number. Do folks know otherwise?

"BMW was originally going to release the 1M Coupé as a limited production model of 2,700 units. Due to overwhelming demand, the company lifted the cap. Nevertheless, production of the 1M Coupé stopped in June 2012, with 740 units sold in the US and a further 220 sold in Canada. Total 6309 cars sold worldwide" (Wikipedia)

"How many of each [1M] version were produced?
UR91 (European-spec, LHD): 4,155 produced 3/2011 through 6/2012
UR92 (European-spec, RHD): 1,204 produced 3/2011 through 6/2012
UR93 (North American-spec, LHD): 983 produced 3/2011 through 12/2011"
6342 total (PH Gassing station)

450 RHD UK models perhaps.

Worldwide production may have increased, but the UK still only got 450 cars, hence why the values have remained strong here.

I think the prices will drop a little as the M2 is almost the same price and 5 years is a big gap in technology

That may be, but the M2 is still nearly 10s slower around the 'Ring than the CSL

Could that mainly be down to the tyres? I've heard several people mention how much difference the PSC tyres make on a lap of the Ring...

Quite possibly, as I would imagine the lap time would have been done on the PSC 2s, which are not as good as the 1s.

However, the CSL really is a very special car on track - they went to town on making the suspension perfect for achieving that lap time.

1. They are a specific size, compound and tyre wall stiffness to suit these cars.

2. Bet they have never tried the Cup 1s in their sizes .

3. The Cup 2s in the size to suit our cars are simply not as good as the same size Cup 2s on a dry track.

4. The only plus point for the Cup 2s -v- Cup 1s in our sizes is that they are better in standing water due to their wider / deeper grooves. Sadly the offset of these grooves is that when the tyres get hot, they move around more, so have a narrower window of operation (as in you get one hot lap at the 'Ring, but the car is really loose if attempting a back to back hot lap).

They may also even be like for the Porsches, but I have not had any feed-back from these guys as yet.
