no, you can easily change to 24hour with a press of the button......but get the 'dot' checked out for sure

Common then, fess up - who has just run out to their car to check if they have a dot?

Only thing I'm thinking even by looking at the service and mot history he could have altered the dash before the next time the mileage was recorded at a garage etc;(

Yes, but like I said, I don't know the meaning of the dot to be a cast iron fact. It maybe worth ringing a BMW dealer or UK and speaking to someone there, or getting the car read by a dealer, as I believe mileage and VIN are sorted in more than one location on the car, ECU, LKM etc.

Ah ok cool, I'll try call to see as I don't think there's time to pop to a dealer or if there's even one near him, thanks for that

The dot does mean that there's some disagreement between the various bits of the car that all hold the mileage reading (the dashboard itself, the light control module and the keys, I think) - it's an anti-clocking measure.

No doubt there's some way it can happen innocently, but you'd want to be pretty sure of the car's history. The obvious thought is that the car's been amateurishly clocked, since it's certainly possible to clock them and avoid the dot appearing.

Cheers for that If it's got good history like the seller says then I'll concider it if it's mint looking plus someone said it was only at 50k a few months ago without the dot so couldn't have done alot more than the 4k could it.

There is always a risk buying privately and especially a car from eBay. If it doesnt feel right then dont rush the purchase just because youve sold our evo. I would be slightly dubious that the seller spent so much on it over a short time and low miles just to sell it again.

Definitely phone bmw to get verification of service schedule and mileage and ideally you could arrange an inspection if you are unsure.

There are couple of similarly priced SG with warranty on pistonheads.

Good luck.
