My RS500 was quick but did not handle any thing like the CSL, and in the 11 years of ownership had two engines

They need quite a bit of money spending on them to get them to handle, as the front to rear roll disparity gives a heavily inclined roll axis and combined with horrendous rear bump steer from the standard beam, leads to the car wanting to under steer everywhere and have an unpredictable rear end. The engines have to be built and mapped properly too - mine was done on an engine dyno:

Here it is at 8500rpm, making 543bhp and 505lb ft - its been in the car for 5 years now with the shit kicked out of it at every track day (as Adem will testify ) - its the clutch and transmission that have a limited life span now .
