I actually cannot believe it has gone this far. If the YES vote wins is that it? game over no going back start building borders type of thing?

I can certainly see how it has came about. From my limited understanding 'The north' has had a rough ride for many many years.

Should it be a 'YES' whats the plans? theres a lot of money required every time the sun rises

This is why the English government has hot footed out there office in London up here as it looks like we just might cut off there income

All the crap from the banks and the supermarkets is crap if they can sell produce here they will stay its getting like kids at school if i cant play your not having my ball

.... Interesting comment.

For the last couple of years I’ve been certain it would be a no vote as every Scot I’ve spoken to here or in Scotland have had very strong & articulately put views on why Scotland should remain part of the UK, however past few weeks looking at TV coverage I’m not so sure, will be very interesting to see which way it goes.

I’ve been on the fence until I seen one interview with Alex Salmond were he said Scotland had as much right to the UK Pound as the rest of us. Well I’m sorry boys, it isn’t a cake & eat scenario, you want to be independent you look about your own currency, same goes for NHS etc. etc.

As a proud Ulster man I have a fondness for Scotland & the best thing about the place is its people but you’ll have to think with the head & not the heart.

To me it has now reached a toxic mix of division & anti-English sentiment without any logical analysis of the cold hard facts. It's not scaremongering, nonsense or intimidation, it's reality. Here's the best, non-political & pragmatic summary I've read to date:

http://www.scotsman.com/news/scotlan...dict-1-3537857

If this proud nation votes Yes on Thursday, we will indeed get the politicians we deserve & they will be governing a divided nation. Welcome to the new Northern Ireland, without quite the same level of religious hatred.
I have to agree with that ^^^

One thing I find laughable is that they will not be allowing born and bred Scots who choose to live/work in England/Wales the right to vote to decide Scotland's future yet they will allow immigrants and asylum seekers who currently live in Scotland (or have only done so for a short time) the right to vote... Crazy!

There's way too much romaticism and 'Brave Heart' thinking in the 'Yes' camp which is clouding the facts and realities (many harsh) of a Scotland which gains independence.

Finally, as a proud member of Her Majesty's Armed Forces, I was rather bemused to hear that Salmond fully expects that assets from all three Services are handed over in order to establish his 'Scottish Defence Force' toy army... Bell end!

You go your own way - you can expect to pay your own way!

I am not into politics, I try to avoid it where I possibly can, but this potentially affects us all, so it’s important that we have some understanding, so can someone shed some light on this please?

Isle of Man has is independent and uses the Manx Pound / Sterling
If Scotland went independent, would/should it be much different to this in principle?

The Isle of Man Government (Manx: Reiltys Ellan Vannin) is the government of the Isle of Man. The formal head of the Isle of Man Government is the Lieutenant Governor, representing Queen Elizabeth II, Lord of Mann. The executive head is the Chief Minister.
Douglas, the largest town on the Isle of Man is its capital and seat of government, where the Government offices and the parliament chambers (Tynwald) are located.
The Civil Service has more than 2,000 employees and the total number of public sector employees including the Civil Service, teachers, nurses, police, etc. is about 9,000 people. This is somewhat more than 10% of the population of the Island, and a full 23% of the working population. This does not include any military forces, as defence is the responsibility of the United Kingdom

The Manx pound (Manx: Punt Manninagh) is the currency of the Isle of Man, in parity with the pound sterling.[1] The Manx pound is divided into 100 pence. Government notes and coins, denominated in pounds and pence, are issued by the Isle of Man

They can have a currency that shadows the pound but that's not the same as having a currency that is the pound and having a say in how it is managed. Their currency will basically follow ours irrespective of how their economy does. Not good when things go bad as you cant devalue (if Scots are up shit creek and Brits are doing lubbly jubbly - or vice versa ).

The pound was a Scottish pound before England used it but as a country we can use any currency in the world.

Indeed you can, but you cannot set your own interest rates or print money to manage inflation or alter the appeal of your exports.
