Worse thing of all is the M3/M4 has lost its roots. High revving power plant. They should have just produced a branch off vehicle like Porkie does and the brilliant AMG's. I mean even a decent hot hatch will keep it humble is telling you they have lost their edge big time. The time only means so much, but if Porsche can still build a screaming NA GT3 engine, why can't BMW. In the E46 era, the M3 was hands down the KING. E90/92 Era, AMG was coming fast and furious, now the AMG's seem to have clobbered it where it matters and even the dull Audi's are surpassing it. Those RS models aren't half bad nowadays. I guess owning lambo helps them abit. Yea its new and pretty, but its lost its USP. Not only that, it didn't innovate and capitalize on its market lead. Shame on Bimmer and ///M division.

But agreed if 911's can do it in the 7:30 and below region, makes BMW look rather slow, but also in fairness an M4 cost far less than a 911. Saying that the Cayman S is probably faster round the Ring too which is similar money. Different cars for different people, depends on your needs. Talking all out performance, track orientation then the closest BMW ever got to Porsche was as others have said the E46 M3 CSL and that is why CSL values are so high, its their best M car! |

The 911 GT3 was more expensive than the M3 CSL. The CSL had no problem being faster ...

my knowledge of michelin recently was that they were extra keen to produce a track tyre with better wet performance, lower road noise, cheaper construction, better mpg if im wrong thats great as i will buy them but my gut feel is Cups are faster

They need a screaming 3.8L straight six with 450bhp, and ca 1400kg to do better the csl I think.
New M3 is very good car but has lost its ethos of what it was all about for us BMW loyals/fanatics and I feel long term it will lose them sales as it doesn't stand above the crowd. I'm sticking it out for the time as I placed my order for a m3 last week for my new daily, I hope I have done the right thing and it's not misplaced trust with BMW! Shawn |
