the way I worded the comment about your trade offer statement is how any potential buyer will interpret it.

and i've never heard of any car manufacturer to do a 'half' facelift, and then a year later do a 'full' facelift.
Ok, careful - the word lying is quite strong. I'm just stating what information I had and where I had got it from. If you've read my other thread about 'CSL front PDC' then you'll see that it's not the first time I've phoned the £1 per min BMW Information line, only to be told things that aren't quite true. Thankfully when I went to see the CSL, BMW had not punched holes in the £3k front bumper to install PDC so it was a mistake on their part. Same obviously happened here.

As for 'I've never heard of any car manufacturer to do a 'half' facelift before doing a full facelift, despite what you might believe, you're not the font of knowledge when it comes to all things automotive. This is actually quite a common thing for manufactures to do, another good example will be the Mk2 VW Golf. They did a facelift called the '90 spec' where lots of things were changed e.g windows, doors, small/big bumpers etc etc. And there are MANY examples of cross over cars with 'half' facelifts from the factory.

I appreciate what everyones saying, and this doesn't appear to be a 'full facelift' but things are not always as black and white as you make out.

One last thing - people can make 'mistakes' - we're not all blessed with the knowlege that you have

There was a very early change in 2001 which made the strut brace and adjustable seats standard equipment, but that isn't what people usually refer to as a "facelift" because almost all the cars have these.

Apart from that, it looks like a nice one.
Thanks Outnumbered, I think your correct - I'll adjust the advert accordingly.

To be honest it didn't bother me whether it was facelift or not, I just went on the spec and condition at the time

Exclamation

Give the guy a break fellas, he's simply advertising his car - and what seems a very genuine car at that.

Facelift or not, a genuine buyer will offer and pay for the car what he thinks is fair based on it's condition - simples...

My S8 has this, its a facelift with respect to 99% of the stuff but still came from the factory with the pre-facelift steering wheel.
Think it was what was available in the parts bin at the time of assembly.

Nice looking M3 and i'm sure it will sell

Cheers Glendog, I didn't expect to be bombarded with so many comments on here, but if the only suggestions for improvements to the add are to remove the word 'facelift' then I've not done a bad job

Thanks for the support

I'm glad it's not just me who has experience of this then, the VAG group seem to do this on alot of models as they are always introducing 'facelifts'

Cheers for the reply, can't wait to get the CSL

well funtime, the fact is that either you were lying or bmw was. either, or, it is as simple as that. it might be a strong word, but nevertheless it is true. I for one have never heard of so many inconsistencies being told by bmw. perhaps you should stop using this source of yours at bmw, as evidently they do not have a clue about bmws.

not once have i ever proclaimed to being 'the font of knowledge when it comes to all things automotive' and neither have I said that people don't make mistakes. i am very surprised that any of my comments have led you to extrapolate as such. evidently your deductive logic is not very developed. i am not 'blessed' with with any such knowledge as you might imply. however, my knowledge of e46 m3s clearly outweighs your own, and the fact remains 'i told you so'.

when people in a forum such as the register are telling you your car is a pre-facelift, it is as 'black and white as we make out'.

glwts and enjoy your csl.

Mate, I have noticed a number of your posts across some threads being rather inflammatory. It may be that I have just happened across those of this nature rather than the more constructive ones you may have posted, but as a friendly suggestion, you may want to adjust the tone of your wording.
