Default Racing in 2017

Cant beleive this will be my 4th year with a licence and racing, seems like only yesterday I thought this would be a financial mistake.........should have listened to myself . - (dont ask). Certainly helps sharing the costs, and whilst having partners can be painful, picking a good one has proven a godsend tbh, toilet breaks aside.

anyway, Betsy has gone and with that we have Dora to replace her. Hope she is as lucky as Betsy. It is about winning but a huge amount of luck goes with racing and what we really want is to start and finish races, competitively would be nice, a win or two would be great.

THis year with Dora we have an E46 M3 race car that was raced last year in CSCC NEw Millennium (against us) and Kuhmo BMW. She was competative in both with a race win or two at the hands of a reasonably new driver like us, so with luck on our side we should be able to put in some decent lap times and put some pressure on cars which have had bigger budgets and better figures (dont mention the ones that have lower budgets and worse figures )

Dora was bought in October and weighs about 1150kg, with light doors and front wings. She has ATS coilovers, standard ECU, OE 5 manual speed gearbox, 4:10 diff (E36), Alcon brakes, carbon airbox, an engine rebuild by JC which probably should give us a slightly better bhp along with a map by Wayne at Chipwizards. We will run probably DZ03G again, along with Rainsports for wet weather, maybe a soft inter for those damp days as it can be a big advantage.

All we have doen to her since purchase is:

1. Refresh engine at JC
2. Refresh diff at JC
3. New race clutch and lightened flywheel
4. A few small additions to the cage to the front turrets and rear diff.
5. CAE shifter
6. Maintenance on bushes and geo

And hen probably off with the GTR livery and soemthing simple and new so people can see us coming!

CSCC NEw Millennium is a bit like MOdern CLassics but for cars post 2000. You can mod pretty well anything and drenth, aero, motek, smg etc all ok if you can afford it (some can and have) but as there are win penalties, the cash spend does get wasted if it only gives you one win, so it seems to mainly stop the guys from spending very big.

New Millennium are 30 min qualifying, 40 minute races, with a driver change between 10 and 25 mins, prize for class win and overall wins all held over one day of the two day event. Looks like this year we will have I reckon 10-12 M3 as well as all of rest of the class cars like CLios CUps buzzing around. Calendar for 2017.....

Snetterton 300
Thruxton
Silverstone International
Spa
July
Castle Combe
Croft
Donington National
Oulton Park
Brands Hatch Indy.

WHAT ABOUT THE REST OF YOU?

Good stuff Shim, you're gonna toast them with that thing.

Well, after thinking about it for a few years I'm finally sorting my race licence and booking ARDS at Castle Combe for Spring. Vintage and Historic stuff for me and a little bit forced into it if I'm honest. Share ownership of a 1948 single seater with a Norwegian. Car hasn't been raced for 30 years but has just been invited to attend a few prestigious events because of it's racing history. The other guy can't make the various dates but we have agreed it has to attend and run for the sake of it's value alone. Therefore it's down to me!

My guys have just stripped it down for a comprehensive re-fresh and improvements. However, non of your newfangled safety stuff here like roll cages and harnesses, so I'm a little nervous! Hillclimbs first off, so Chateau Impney, Prescott, Shelsley Walsh and maybe Goodwood FOS first events.

Wow, very lucky to be driving that let alone competing in it.

Good luck Alex and keep us updated, maybe some tickets for a event.

Spec looks awesome and with all the mods weighing in at 1150kg that's a weapon right there. Someone has spent some £££££

4.1 diff and cae shifter are brilliant mods.

Good luck 😉

That's got to be doing 2.05's at snett?
