Default Power steering failure ?

Hi,
while parking the car this afternoon there was a puff of smoke/steam from out of the driver side wheel arch and the power steering is gone.
It sounds to me like the power steering hose has burst. ????
I am no mechanic , but i drove the car home slowly which is only a few miles with no other consequences, ie/ no lights came on, no battery warning lights etc.
Has this happened to anyone here before and is it safe to drive the car to the garage or should it be transported ??
Thanks in advance.
Mark

Hi Mark,

I think most likely the power steering hose has burst.... before I bought my CSL... I had 2 (including mine) checked out and both of them have trace of oil (said to be leaking) from the hose.... both cars were all with very low milage (mine was around 7K miles and the other one was 10K miles)... got my replaced by the dealer before I bought it....

So from there, I suspect it is the common problem of our cars...

cheers,

richie

Your doing the right thing having it transported, last thing you want is the pump running dry and it breaking

oh, and the power steering pumps are prone to leaking slightly - nothing to worry about apparently
