They are only cheaper if you use 18" rims - that was what led me to give them a go, at the time dunlops were expensive but now they are on offer I'd go for them in 18" and cups in 19". I know of 2 properly quick drivers who rate the Dunlops

ive been using the 888 for my visits to sepang f1 international circuit, Malaysia. No issue on heating up, i guess the track temp and ambient temp here is fairly high most of the time. grip is great, though not super.

have been using the current set for 5 trackdays, with an average of 20 hot laps per trackday, and still got 20-25% thread. however, they are already losing grip under hard braking from 220km/h at 150meter point, and understeers at high speed sweepers!! previously i can brake at 125m point with no problem.

wet performance is bad, since we have torrential rain here. really scary, and i can only drive 70-80km/h max in wet.

i guess i need to change to a different set even with the 'balance' thread. thread rating of 100 is something to consider. for similar price, i'm trying out federal 595rs-r tyres next.

This is defo some to think about, i was just going to buy a set of Cups and live with them as Shimmy and Woppum does but i might now by a set of rear 18's and go for the dunlops and keep my Falken 452's for the wet.
