Average cost of a seasons racing?
 

A bit vague but here goes.
How much would it cost me roughly to compete in the csl cup next year?
assuming i don't have any major mechanical failures/crashes.

in what way would you compete?

• standard or modified class,
• buy car, develop car or buy seat
• have BMS, TMS, Geoff Steele, Simpsons look after you car or do it yourself

i think that depending upon you answers above the answer could be pretty different (and whether youll get the boys to admit the cost on line is another thing)

my guess is between £2k-5K per weekend on top of the race car purchase and repairs

Shimmy, Thanks for the reply. I would be in standard class and look after the car myself. I would buy a car that has been freshly prepared.

just a quick rough calculation i competed in 5 rounds

entry fees - £2000
tyres (2 sets) - £1800
hotel - £ 1200
camping - £ 0
petrol 2 star - £180
thorneys buffet - free
brake pads £400

how on earth, by the way can you only spend £180 on fuel

i reckon on track 16 laps x 3 sessions x 2 miles x 5 weekends = 480 miles

480 miles / 7 mpg x £5 = £342 and then add travel to and from 5 circuits gotta be another £250 = £600 on fuel minimum :smokin:

I would plan on £20k for a prepped car and Im hoping around £1k per meet without repairs/damage. I'm lucky coz for the first year me and Radders are sharing the costs and the driving, if we like it, the E36 racecar will be sold and get a car each....

Hazy, i am only watching the guys do it and if you are prepared to look after your own 'team' and be happy with competing rather than winning at all costs then per weekend;

entry fees = £400
fuel = £120 (cheaper than trackdays)
hotels = £80
pads/discs = £200 average
tyres = £450
wets = £150
= £1400 miminum even on Curlys pretend budget

All being well I should have a major sponsor to help out with car prep and race fees, fuel/hotels and tyres will go through my company so it should be gown to beer money and free Thorney buffet if I get invited :thumbs:

Just given a finance broker £100k+ of business, Ive told him he has to get his hand in his pocket too ;)

You forgot testing, insurance, oil changes, replacing bearings, punctures, transport, pies, renting transponder + no doubt some more.
