BMW Warranty..which one?

Hi guys,

Hope all are well.

Just trying to understand which level of warranty everyone would use for their Cars.

Comprehensive, named component and driveline all have a variation of cover depending on excess.

I have been told that the SMG pump and engine is covered in Driveline, but would you advise choosing Comprehensive for full peace of mind or is driveline or named component enough?

Does anyone regret choosing one over the other?

How helpful have they been?

Thanks.

Funnily enough I was just about to post the very same post.

Right now I have fully comp £250 excess. About £1750 which is a lot!

Not sure I have to balls to go without. Few points:

The driveline has a claim limit of just £5000. So if your engine is toast you are screwed regardless!
The fully comp now includes cover on wear and tear items up to 100,000.

It's the annual decision, but think I'll bite the bullet and go fully comp £250 excess again.

Thanks Matt,

How about Named component?

Looked at the BMW warranty when I bought mine last year, at the time it was £1600 pa for the driveline one.

Spoke to Damien at Barts and got his thoughts, thought back to the crap I've put up with over warranties in the past and decided to give it a miss.

Booked it into Barts for preventative work on the "weak bits" engine wise and had a new HG, new bottom bearings and a new oil pump. All parts used were BMW so, in effect, if any engine problems arise and a finger can be pointed at any of those bits it's covered by a 2 year warranty on the parts.

I know it's a subjective topic but worked on the basis of putting ££ aside for anything else that goes tits up.

Just cancelled my Bmw warranty after six years and some half decent payouts, but decided it's just not paying for itself anymore like it used to ;)

Yes, a few years back. I also had good coverage earlier this year under warranty.

I'm happy with the peace of mind.

My opinion is that it's only the full warranty that's worth having. The other versions have too many exclusions to cope with common issues (e.g they don't cover oil leaks or seals) or have too low a claim limit.

Agreed Brian

I had full warranty for 5.5 years and never made a claim.

It's largely down to luck and timing.

I too had all of the above preventative maintenance carried out post warranty @ Bart's.

18 months on and several TD's later so far so good. ;)

I had middle version for 5 years and BMW spent about £32k on her and I guess my contribution via warranty was £7k
