Hi

Seen one advertised for sale at a main agent at £44k

Is this the right price, as seems a lot to me?

It has 6 owners, is that pretty much normal or quite high?

There doesn't seem too many low miles CSLs for sale at the moment apart from a well known specialist in Oxford who has some bad press recently
So was thinking the main again may be the better bet?

Seems a tad high as it would have sold for £32k 15 months ago, but hey ho!

Probably sub forty K if selling privately, price is about fair for a dealer

AU Warranty is worth it's weight in gold if in the unlikely event something lets go.

NJ in Oxford would not be my first choice of purchase given the recent threads on Cutters. That said I bought my first csl off him in '07.

Cheap, look how the prices of pork have risen. Some people are giving them away.

I viewed this car a couple of months ago simply because it was local to me. At the time Benhams had undertaken little or no cosmetic preparation, in my opinion it didn't resemble a cherished example. No doubt they will have attended to these cosmetics now; but at £44k I think it's very expensive. IIRC the running in service was carried out very late.

The car will supposedly be supplied with BMW warranty, but with AP brakes and a late running in service, will the warranty be honoured in the event of a claim?

What was wrong with it apart from the late service?

Largely cosmetic issues IIRC. Too many stonechips (possibly from track use ?) car park dents in panels, heavily worn steering wheel, excessive wear on drivers seat and out of date Cup tyres. All of this addressable with £ and Benhams may have decided to do some of this in order to speed up the sale. But at £44k and a less than perfect service history it was easy to walk away.

A week or so earlier I'd viewed a 27k mile car at Hexagon which was pricedat £48k and was subsequently reduced to £45k. The Hexagon car had lived a charmed life and was night and day better than Benham car. Even at £48k the Hexagon car was better value IMO. The hexagon car also had AP brakes, unfortunately the car had also been covered in Ventureshield from an early age which I would have wanted to remove. I personally felt this could be high risk as the removal of the Ventureshield may have an adverse impact on the paint given it had probably been on the car 10 years.

So in summary, I'm confident you'll find a better example than the Benham car with a ~£44k budget. You may have to wait a while for such a car to surface.

Asking price must be a 'BMW' thing as it's on a par with Hexagon.

NJ sold one in Feb this year with similar mileage, the asking price was £37.

IMO mileage isn't the main factor but the Service History when purchasing, providing that is correct and it has a warranty there should be little to fear. (Invariably low mileage cars run foul of the bi-annual service requirement.)
