Can anyone ID these pads? (AP Racing 6pot)
 
Hi chaps!

Picked up a used set of AP racing brakes (front), with pads included. The previous owner bought them used and didn't keep them long due to the fact that they require wheel spacers (5555 kit). So he purchase the 5575 making his old 5555 surplus to requirements.

The kit is in great condition. The only problem is I am not sure what pads I have, the seller isn't sure either.

This might be a long shot but I'm hoping I can get some hints as to what these pads are... (looking for fast road pad, low noise) - it would be great if these are ferodo ds2500!

Ferrodo DS2500 or DS3000??

Look for signs or meta or rust in the pad material

^^ thanks shimmy - there is definitely patches of what seems like surface rust, brown colour on the material.

Seems like a good sign for what I want :)

I don't think there is a way to be certain, so I guess I'll just have to put them on and see how they go.

I was more concerned about noise - but at the same time didn't want to splash out on fast road/ low noise pads unnecessarily. :wink:

Does it 'matter' which pads I run in the rear? I intend to use stock m3 rear brakes and have PF-Z pads. I just recall reading somewhere about braking issues between different pads front/rear not sure if its bull. The seller told me that Tarox Corsa is a great pad for the rears.

quick update:

Finally got the kit installed, a big thank you to Martin for supplying some extra parts and thanks to all in this thread for their help. :supz:

Turns out there was a bit of a twist though - according to another M3 owner my kit appears not to be for the E46 M3 (originally) - but has been modified to fit it?

I must admit when I first acquired the kit I did notice the caliper design was different to most E46 M3 kits I had seen, most notably the pad retaining pins compared to hex bolts.

Everything works fine and I love the new braking performance, soo much more confidence inspiring.

I thought the design of my caliper was different because it was the CP5555 (older version to the CP5575), but I'm not so sure that's the case. I tried searching google for similar ap calipers which led me to Subaru/Mitsubishi kits?

I know the product code is stamped on the caliper so I'll have to get the wheels off and read it - just want to be sure for when I need to order pads and discs in the future.

Any thoughts welcome :)

If they are DS2500, just be sure your read the warning posts about them - fine pad for road but not for track.

Absolutely agree with this. I cooked mine on track in no time. I currently run PF01s, which are dusty but great.
