Thinking of a 1m...

Hi guys,

I've seen this 1m for sale at Stratstone:

http://www.pistonheads.com/classifie...-3-0-m/6287536

48k miles, white, pretty good spec (?), £40,995. It's very recently been dropped in price from £41,754.

It seems fairly high mileage to me, but does it sound like a fair price?

I'm going test drive it today, will report back.

Its at the miles it will need a walnut bast on the inlet valves
I would say its over priced for the miles it should be closer to 34k

Can't add anything of value, but i have to say that i am surprised that they couldn't be bothered to clean up the dirt behind the number plates :smt108

Also the front seems to be a bit rough judging from the pictures. Not sure whats going on there, either photoshop fail or somebody had some problems mounting the number plate:hahaha:

I've not heard of walnut blasting, is that something that would be covered under AUC warranty in the UK?

The plates where obviously on when I took it out, and everything looked immaculate. It'll go in for a full valet before I collect, but I'll take a good look before I accept it...

So i take it, you have bought it? If so congrats

Regarding the walnut blasting, i'll take a guess and say it is because of carbon buildup. All direct injection engines suffer from it.
No clue what AUC warranty is, i am guessing its a 2nd hand warranty.
If so, then i'd say its not covered. As its not a "fault" per se.

What can be done to prevent this happening (or slow it down)?

select 09-12-2016 05:53 PM

I think its because on partial load the exhaust gasses get fed back into the engine to increase the level of efficiency.
And with direct injection there is no petrol cleaning up the valves because it gets directly injected into the combustion chamber.

So to slow it down, you have to reduce the amount of partial load driving.
Easier said then done, i think.

Whether this can slow it down by a noticeable amount? I don't know, i guess you just have to accept to clean the engine every now and then as part of the maintenance.

Btw, i am not a car mechanic.. so may be someone can explain it in better detail.
