xenon lights from rhd to lhd

anybody knows how to modify the lights in order to drive in France (or everywhere outside uk  ).

i'have been told there s a lever inside the light housing to modify them from uk to continental.

any clues ??

I had to buy new light units... but I have no xenon.

BMW dealer said I need new ones, normal or xenon... but xenon is a lot more expensive !

So I guess you can not modify them for the continent.

I manually modified mine when i went to Europe the first time by rotating the knurled knob at the top rear of each xenon light unit.

You have to do it with the car facing a wall so that you can actually see the beam path change direction down and to the other side. I remembered the amount of turns that i did so that i could put it back to UK again.

However, when i did return i kept getting flashed by others so got them checked and aligned properly by BMW when i was in next time. Been fine since...

I would advise getting the same (EU alignment settings) done to your car back home in France - you don't need new lights - of that i'm pretty sure!

Interesting... but maybe this doesn't work on "normal" light units.

that's what i was thinking. I saw the lights of a E90 with a lever inside the housing to modify the beam.

i tried to turn the big black knob on the top of the lights, but i only saw a modification of the height of the light.....maybe i need to turn, and turn, and turn, and...........turn another time......will check tomorrow

thanks

I had an early e46 M3 with xenons and you can alter them for abroad. I got a garage to do for about £30 but it can be done by an owner although it is awkward.

Have a search on MTorque, there was a thread on there which described it but it was a while ago...

seen on MTORQUE:

"i asked about this a while ago and there was very little information from anyone on here. Since then I have been into my local dealership having had rung them on my way to the continent.

An engineer came out and showed me the adjustment point. To locate the knob you will have to remove the black covers on the back of the headlamp unit. Inside you will just be able to see and feel a little white stalk which is just off centre of the headlamp at the 9 o'clock (R headlamp) position and 3 o'clock position (L headlamp) as you look at the front of the car. When these are pushed down they are set for use on the continent and when pulled back up they are set for the UK.

Both are difficult to reach especially the L headlight for which you must pop the windscreen washer tube out of its holder."

thanks Nords

now i need an engineer to turn the knob :-D

Stevencsl: now you have 2 spare units :-D
