lifting while changing gears

So I was told by an instructor that banging gears while being flat on the accelerator is slower than if I lift a little then change gears. It certain makes the shift smoother but more importantly, am I saving time or losing time?

Shifting Operation
Depending on the driving situation, distinctions are made between trailing-throttle upshifts, trailing-throttle downshifts, acceleration upshifts and acceleration downshifts. The complete shifting operation takes place in 3 phases.

Full Throttle shifts are always guaranteed to make the fastest shift in the current situation possible. I think your instructor is wrong on that occasion.

Was this a driving instructor Nick ? :)

First I've heard of this. Cant imagine it being quicker over foot to floor and changing gear in S5 or S6 mate.

.........just after he told you to "feed the steering wheel through your hands". :hahaha:

yeah.

I was a bit puzzled as well. normally I don't hesitate to do full throttle upshifts but he had me thinking a bit.

I also mentioned that I wanted to try triangulation on hairpins. He didn't like that as well. something about my car being too heavy. Shimmy, what's the verdict on trying to vee a hairpin in the CSL?
