BMW Recall ref. Steering Wheel Airbag Renewal

Is this common knowledge?
Who has had this work carried out?

Chappers 26-03-2017 06:39 PM

Yeah I found this out by browsing on cutters, then called them up and booked it in. Didn't have a letter this time. Call your local dealer, tell them not to wash it, go drink some coffee and eat some lotus biscuits. Sorted.

Mine is booked to have this carried out a week Thursday, only heard through forums etc. No letter that I can remember. Must get my steering wheel retrimmed now.

NBTBRV8 26-03-2017 08:39 PM

What is the recall number?

Yanto 27-03-2017 08:02 AM

I had this done 3-4 years back....is this a further issue or are people catching up still ?

select 27-03-2017 08:30 AM

3 years ago was probably passenger side airbag.
This time around its all about the Drivers side. ;)

shimmy 27-03-2017 08:49 AM

So they couldnt have done both same time :)

Monkey 27-03-2017 10:32 AM

It was indeed the passengers side a couple of years back, it's now the drivers side.

They have just released another batch of chassis numbers, so if yours hasn't been done I would expect you to get a letter soon.

I rang to book my MOT for next Thursday and was informed they wanted to undertake the warranty airbag work then.

. Asked about this driver airbag recall when I booked mot, doing airbag at same time, not had a letter though.

I am not sure how it is handled in the UK, now that you are now longer part of the EU it might be different , however the MOT guys might not know about this recall. Best to ask the BMW dealership directly.

phoenixcsl 07-04-2017 11:44 AM

I didn't get a letter for mine, but the recall has been carried out by Vines of Redhill.

All I did was ask the service guy if there was any recalls outstanding on the CSL when I was having my i8 serviced.

Had my airbag replaced yesterday.

I asked about the recall number to be told there would likely be a different number in Australia and they recommended that you contact BMW Oz with your chassis number to get the correct recall info... Sorry I could not be more help!

Thanks, but I think they might not understand that the recall is international.

I will check it out.

ONLY coz You were so frikkin slow to get the first one done.

Mine's booked in for this recall in a couple of weeks. The dealer says that the work is typically taking longer than the one hour mentioned in the letter, so I'm having to leave it with them for the day.

Since replacing the steering wheel airbag actually takes about 5 minutes, I'm wondering what else is involved in this ?

Pip1968 18-09-2017 04:23 PM

In order to help our brothers across the other side of the world here is the recall number. At least I think it is:-

0032260200/0032480200

Yanto please start sparking ;) .

I got my letter 22 August 2017.

Got my letter this week. It says investment bankers get their letters last as they are expendable :)

Yanto 18-09-2017 08:01 PM

Got mine last week...

Just received my letter, will the Dealer do the passenger side or should I give them a prompt ?
