cracking pics boys, what was the M2 like on track Ian ?

nw99 18-07-2017 07:55 PM

Best colour love my LB Blue

Yanto 18-07-2017 09:53 PM

They really are good....I'd say..based on both oem....

I Expected brake fade more than experienced. GT a long lap (4.5 miles ?) and ran 5-6 laps per session without significant problem.

Steering not as direct and less feel than CSL.

M2 more body roll on on std suspension through corners.

Power delivery very different. Over a Bedford lap, well driven M2 would have the legs on CSL. Torque punch through the range is mega, but you'd enjoy the NA and noise of CSL much more. Saw 140 on speedo (130 true ?) on back straight which for a lardy car I thought was reasonable.

My car was fitted with Contis from new...which I think don't get the power down as well. I think Mich SS would've performed better.

CSL still gives you Go-Kart feel which you don't get in M2. You seem to sit higher and seats less grippy.

I have way more confidence driving M2 in Sport + than I do CSL with DSC off. Feels more controllable if back end flaps around.

Attracts a lot of positive attention and as an all round package, the game has moved on. Finished the day in one piece, flicked on Bluetooth to Oasis, set Sat Nav and headed home at end of day. On same tyres which still have plenty of life.

Only downside is they seem to have made the fuel tank out of a pippette!

On the ropes.....I'd still take the CSL.....but as a pair, they work well together.

Thanks for the comparison Yanto, i haven't driven the M2 but it sounds like the best car BMW currently has to offer.

In sport+ the DSC still stays on as far as i know. I think it just makes the DSC less intrusive, pretty much like the track mode button on CSL. Perhaps thats why you felt it was more controllable.

It felt like it was off ! The traction light is on.

I thought Sport = track mode.

I work for BMW and own an M2 best car
since the CSL

DazBlackCSL 19-07-2017 09:41 AM

Good write up bud, thanks for taking the time:thumbs:

Must say every time I see one I keep doing the sums in the head :hahaha:

They have so much road presence and seems everyone that has one is loving the experience.

Prices are low for nearly Used cars now after initial premiums which makes them even more attractive .

billyboysm3 19-07-2017 11:06 AM

Nice pictures Ian, really wanted a couple of laps in it but being the tyre changing bitch that I am sadly no time:

My best 3 laps on a greasy bedford. Car has good potential:
