It's snow joke

Been stuck in snow on A23 for 6 hours so far... People have been really kind, giving me a push on inclines from stand still... Even a scooby driver stopped to help. Not the ideal car but I vowed to use her every single day! Probably borrow other half's Golf tomorrow  bloody weather...

thrashermax 12-03-2013 04:55 AM

9 hrs now... Tired, hungry, need a piss, but CSL coping well... Not a gritter in sight. Might have to sleep in CSL tonight.

deanobeano 12-03-2013 08:27 AM

Thrasher - did you make it home?
sorry if this wakes you up!

shimmy 12-03-2013 08:41 AM

hope you survived

CSL is nightmare on road tyres in snow, i normally cant even get off the drive

All RWD BMW's are shite in the snow

I had a 123D coupe and got stuck in a car park with 1cm of compacted snow...computer said no.
A man gave me a push and then got back into is Rover 45...I said I would wait to give him a hand if required, he just drove away like he was on sandpaper...ad waved as he tore past me!

I bet thrashermax is in bed now catching up on some sleep!!! I have friends who got stuck on the A23 ad only got home at 4am. I picked my wife up in her golf gti and was amazed at the number of idiots racing their engines and wheel spinning and in turn polishing the snow to sheet ice! Gentle throttle control didn't seem to register with most people. Then there were the panic brakers wondering why they were sliding into the kerbs with a bang, there would have been a lot of dinged wheels about.
In our case a 10-15minute journey took 3.5 hours, new front tyres on the golf made it possible to carefully make my way up all the hills past the wheel spinners!
Meanwhile Cecil is tucked up in the garage under its fitted cover !

More accurately, all cars with high performance summer tires are shite in the snow.

Want to drive your car in the winter? Get winter tires.

High performance winter tires exist, btw, they don't have to be boring. The Michelin PA4s are pretty wonderful.

Thanks for asking Deano. Left work at 5.45pm, arrived home at 7.15am... the car wasn't really the problem, West Sussex County Council don't seem to know what grit is used for.

Yes, the roads are full of people who can't drive properly... I may have summer tyres but with traction off, 2nd gear start and very gentle right foot the CSL behaved really well. I passed loads of BMWs, Mercs and prats revving the nuts off FWD cars.

The guy in the Scooby who helped me, said this is the only time I'll beat you in a race!

In fact everything was passing me, I didn't care as I was more concerned about not getting my baby damaged.

I can't get mine off my drive in the snow but last night the girl did well. Gentle throttle and off she went, I only needed help on a handful of occasions.

After spending more than 13 hrs in her in one journey we've become closer!

She got me home safely. A car for all occasions! Well done CSL!

But now I'm bloody knackered... sleeping in a CSL is quite hard...

Here's mine, staying on the drive for the moment:

Wow, that's a lot of snow - more than we've seen in total all year in Edinburgh!

englebert 13-03-2013 09:01 PM

Was incredible how suddenly bad it all got on Tuesday. Then here in Kent it disappeared again by lunch; bizarre! My daily is a Golf R on winters at the moment and is great, but to be fair i have winters on a Brabus Smart and it is like a little off-roader compared to normal cars on summer/performance tyres...

SpineOnABap 13-03-2013 09:50 PM

Mine was awesome in the snow but I ran it (in the winter) on Vred Wintrac Extremes, as was the E92 M3 afterwards. Those tyres made all the difference. Hated having to park up the CSL/E92 (my only car) for 7+ days while I waited for the snow to clear from my very under-used road!

PS - totally useless on the regular Michelins/Contis etc. Wouldn't move an inch.
