i came through a few mins after this happened, by that stage there were 4 marshalls and a rapid response medic car there, they were working on someone laid out flat on the grass. the car looked pretty fooked, understandably. apparantly all were ok, by which i mean not dead. not found out any other details since. track wasnt closed for as long as i thought it would be after that. not good though. slowed me right down for the rest of the lap.

gav 10-04-2012 01:24 PM

We came through very shortly after that happened and the marshalls, medics etc were on the scene.
Aparently all ok...... Still alive.

Just a Mega trip all round Conleth...... & great to meet Gav.
Shame we didn't get longer at the end so you could show me how your car really felt but I got the idea......Thanks for the offer to take it out, I would of loved to feel the difference but a little conscious flag in my head wouldn't let me.
Hope to get another trip in this year.

Nope billy Twas not me in the vid and wrong colour wheels for conleth's car...... Not sure what I would of done in that situation though......There was a lot of people on the sidelines ready to help so I'm not sure a car stopped on track would really of been a good idea. Suppose it's one of those situations you don't know your reaction unless it happens.

shimmy 10-04-2012 02:23 PM

I wasn't criticising not stopping but as its on film I was just suggesting it may be wise not to admit not stopping :)

Very difficult to take the step to stop when it may be ones own car that is collected next!

billyboysm3 10-04-2012 02:28 PM

Probably even harder if you see smashed car parts on the road and then no car/4x4

shane@mbtech 10-04-2012 02:46 PM

That's why we pay for trackdsys, for the relative safety and support. Marshals, first aid and medics are on hand. Stopping to help is a no no IMO and could turn a controlled situation into a serious fuck up.

Better to drive by.

Yep, would have liked to have had a bit of a longer session to give you a better idea, but then that's a good excuse for another meet up

Wanted to have more time to take folks out and go out in other cars but was just having too much fun at spa driving my own!

Agree with everyone, Matty, shimmy and lawsy, stopping puts you and your car under much more risk. With medics and marshals already on the scene I had no intention of stopping. Not sure it would have been the same story if my missus was in the passenger seat, we've stopped before at incidents on the road and will do again, but she is an anaesthetist with a experience/training in motorsport trauma, so would have something useful to add to the situation, unlike a lot of the rest of us.

Also we passed an ambulance going up kesselchen prior to reaching the accident so even more help was only minutes away
