Cups or Super Sports??

I am attending DN event in March on full VLN circuit and need tyre advice. Assuming weather could be dodgy for time of year my dilemma is: running barely legal cups currently so considering new boots for the trip.... Do I go cup again or has anyone got any experience of the Super Sports? Thanking you in advance and hope to see some of you there.....

Super Sports.

Would be a good compromise but if it's dry you'll wish you were on Cups.;)

I've driven the csl with cups and super sports at the ring. Cups are obviously the better tyre and in my experience are worth about 30 seconds a lap. The super sports are a great road and track tyre, they last longer, but are slower. The car moves about more on the super sports but you can still carry some decent corner speed.

On balance, I'm happy with the super sports - you can still have a lot of fun and I feel that I get more for my money in mileage.

If you want outright pace - cups!

Jase, I'll sell you back your SuperSports for £600...

Cups all the way for the Ring ... even in snow ;).

Gregor those aren't Supersports they are remoulds.... you can keep them!

Looks like cups then chaps..... does anyone know where I can get a full set on 19" with all standard CSL tyre sizes?

Try your local ATS Euromaster, Michelin own them.
Other than that Steve aka Azrael on here lived down that neck and may know of somewhere local.

If i did the ring I think Supersports would be the sensible choice, but i would be for ever wondering how much faster i would be on Cups.

Sensible head says buy a set of Super Sports and travel to and from in them and take the Cups for use on track if it is dry.

Pip

I have travelled to and from 60 track days on Cups. Only once have I had to hide under a bridge in Belgium when it rained so hard I thought the CF roof was gonna dent and my Cups were worse than slicks.

Only once have I been terrified on Cups, in 2010 in DuncanRs car just landed in Folkestone and he was driving white lines, bald cups, 100+ on the phone.......shat myself!

AlexGTT 08-02-2012 09:38 PM

Have to agree with Shim on this. Cups in rain have hardly ever been an issue. Drive to suit conditions and available grip and start smiling when/if the track dries.:smokin:
