new csl owner :-)
hi i picked my csl up yesturday and i'm already beginning to love it :smt055
i have a couple of quirys tho. done a search and can't really fine the answers. my cars currently running 225/40/19 front tyres and 255/35/19 rears. anybody had experience with this set-up? i know its not the standard size, what is? also planning a few trackdays/ring trips and gonna get my moneys worth out of the standard brakes before i upgrade. what pads are best to run? |
235 35 19 fronts
265 30 19 rears The tyre size on yours is standard m3 set up Most go for bbk straightaway. Try pagid rs pads, braided hoses, uprated fluid and pf 2 piece discs if staying standard calipers. This will be fine for ring and small session track use. If you stay out for long stints you might then highlight the weakness then go to bbk and wish you saved your money. |
Welcome to the register Dave.

Welcome Dave
Spa 4th October, get it booked  |
Hiya Dave, I'm running the same size 255 rears as you on CSL wheels with no issues. However, I'm planning to put 235/265 Michelin SuperSports on after the winter as I've heard great things about them
|
Hi Dave, welcome, I ran that set up for a while as I had a spare set of tyres from my old M3, no problems at all, enjoy :)

Welcome mate
congrats on purchase - mega cars so enjoy it. Get yourself a warranty :) |
Welcome to the Forum Dave and the fabulous world of CSL ownership.
Some do go BBK straight away, mostly AP's or Alcons but as Lawsy said about, if only doing the odd track day and occasional run to the Ring, you'll get away with uprated fluid, pads and hoses without even doing the discs initially. Good luck with her, which one did you buy? |
Welcome and enjoy the site its full of all the info on the CSL you may ever need

castrol srf brake fluid has the best (highest wet boiling point) which elongates life and increases strength of the brake fluid - it costs me about $80 a bottle - which is pricey - but i have bled my brakes often the past 3 years and have yet to need to flush - average about 20 track days per season. get a set of stainless steer brake lines - will tighten up the brake pedal and you won't experience brake fade. brake pad choice is definitely a personal preference. i run performance friction composite brake pads - 06 type (the number indicates the year they were designed - 97,01,06 - 97 are the strongest initial bite - but the worse on rotors, 01 is a good blend - but they die quickly - 06 are the best of them all!) i never got into the pagids. |
cheers for the advise
some pics as promised, better late than never. http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p...99296376_n.jpg http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p...63337904_n.jpg |

Points and fine with reduced plate (I think max 6 points and £60 but could be over the top there) but max £30 fine with no plate (as long as you don't say you took it off and pervert the course of justice in which case you may get jail :) |
I ran a 3/4 plate for a few years on an Impreza. A policeman tutted at it once but that was it.
I also ran a black plate on my GSX-R for a while. I got pulled over and asked to change it to std so did. In my experience the police tend to dish out instructions rather than penalties. |
I ran an Italian size one on the front of my RS500 to allow as much air into the intercoller, both times just got told to put the right size one on, one officer read the rule book out to me on letter size and background, I always carried the original one in the boot.

shortened plates are NOT illegal. There is simply a requirement to have the correct spacing and border around the numbers, see below.
