CSL in dry storage

looking at a CSL that has been in storage for up to 2 years?

what problems arise if any from being stored for so long..
some one in my last post said problems can occur if a car isnt frequently turned over and driven

is this the case?

thanks lads, aching to get in a CSL

Most fluids like engine oil, brake fluid and coolant would have gone off in the 2 year storage period + brakes will need an inspection for seized calliper pistons, rusty/pitted discs and possibly brittle pads.

Got a viewing on the car later so I'll let you know

glendog74 20-07-2011 08:25 AM

I take it you mean this car?

As has been said, all the fluids will need doing and overhaul of the callipers probably recommended. Discs would clean up probably, but might need removing and going over with some fine sandpaper or similar depending on condition.

People say check tyres for flat spots etc but that will become apparent during a road test, feeling of imbalance through the steering wheel I suppose.

Other than that, give us a good wash and some fresh fuel...when I come to think about it, the fuel might need draining and refreshing... depends how much was in the tank during storage. Some say fill it, leaving less room for condensation to form, other say leave it almost empty therefore when it comes to put it back on the road, you'll be filling it with Fresh stuff but I'm not so sure. In our climate, I don't think the heat will create too many problems.

Enjoy, keep us posted. Decent price! To think I bought mine 5 years ago with 17K on it for £35.5K, so £31 is sensible, I feel anyway.

Whats the warranty situation on this? I presume that it currently doesn't have one?

Can you just get the BMW warranty added without any hassles?

Yep you can add warranty to it no probs, as long as sevicing intervals have been kept to

Which at a guess I would say it has not been serviced as per schedule. I cannot imagine many people paying big money for servicing when it has done only 3k a year and two years of SORN. I may be wrong but being a betting man...

If this was for sale at the end of last week I'd have bought it. The first thing it would have done after its refresh would have been the Donnington Trackday :-D

No PDC's it seems, or Xenons.

I'd have been interested otherwise.
