My crashed CSL

Thanks to some idiot pulling out to overtake a lorry and hitting me head on, I now have one bent CSL.:bigcry:
I have been offered a settlement by the insurers but it falls way short of the value (fleet policies).
They have offered me a buy back, and I hope to sell to recoup some losses.
Here are some before and after shots dont look if you get queasy!

Crikey! A sad sight indeed. Glad you came out of it unscathed though. A head on must have been pretty scary!

Good luck with the sale.

jibm 15-01-2011 11:44 AM

I would strip it and sell it in bit's, you'll get more money for that way IMO.

Glad your ok:thumbs:

sailorbaz 15-01-2011 11:45 AM

Oh dear mate, looks like she was a minter too. Sad sight to see mate, best of luck either way.

Ouch Paul! There is nothing sicker than a lovely car like that ruined. The same kind of thing happened to me in my old E30 M3 Sport Evolution a few years ago and I felt very sorry for myself. This time it was a driver pulling out literally STRAIGHT in front of me when I was doing around 45mph. I T-boned his VW Passat and my car was a very sad mess.

I bullied the insurers into repairing the car at a cost of just under 9 grand, which I thought was a bit of a triumph as they had tried to write it off initially for £4,175! Either way I drove it for a further 4 years till I sold it to make way for my SG CSL in 2009.

I am not sure I'd move heaven and earth to get yours repaired though, even if you have the chance. The CSL is so much more sharp in its geometry I would guess it could drive like a complete dog if it wasn't sopt on.

I would argue as strongly as you can for a relevant settlement figure, making use of a bunch of adverts for similar condition and mileage cars and then buy the wreck back and break it yourself. As the others say, if you are prepared to take the time, you'll get the most back from it that way. It might also mean that you can still get back into a comparable CSL with your settlement figure and transfer some fo the bits from the wreck to the 'new' car if it is less than perfect - eg car with a tatty interior would be cheaper to buy but you can rectify that far more cheaply than anyone else as you wouldn'd have to buy new seats/trims etc to sort it.

Either way it is a crap way to start the new year and I'm truly sorry for you. Mine was just before Christmas and I was just starting my own business at the time - these things never happen at the right time but the main thing is you survived and are in one piece.

Best wishes and best of luck

Yanto 15-01-2011 07:26 PM

sorry to hear this :bigcry::bigcry: - never good to see this sort of thing.

Without wanting to sound like I am picking over the bones of your misfortune, I would be interested in a few bits if you decide to break.

Whichever way you go, good luck.

Worth a go but no thanks, I dont really want to break either as im building 2 cars and dont have the time.
I will try a few advertising avenues before accepting any offers, also the car is available for viewing in Leicester.

8k with a bent chassis 10K without.

Chances are with a substantial front end corner damage it is very like for the chassis to be twisted or bent. "for this reason I'm out lol"

Cat D csl's once repaired don't sell for more than £18,000 and with 60.000 miles you are probably be looking lower than that.

Best of luck with your sale, repair or pay out.

ouch doesnt look good, if you were to replace with new oem parts and do a good job it would be 15k minimum IMO
probably only way to go is to strip and sell or track car base, track car not needing new oem parts. It looks like a hit that will have bent quite a bit of the car.
Nice little project for you Lawsy ;)

Mark Ban !

steelyork 16-01-2011 07:08 PM

Repair it ??

Why not price up the bonnett wing and front panel etc, only bad bit is the inner wing and that'l just need carfefuuly taking of new one on sat on the jig and panel it up.

Probably pick a bumper up of here, so long as the rads and fans are ok it shouldn't be too bad, tell the insurers to GTF on the valutation should be looking at 50% of the value of the car for repairs after that you've had it, might be worth trying to buy it back cheap and collect parts.

I used to buy a lot of salvage of norwich union and Blue cycle.

Real shame bet your well pissed of.

Mark

Got the broker to give me a hand and sent copies of a few ads on PH to the insurers.
Funnily enough £27000 new offer.
For a 60k car with 5 owners:whistle:.... I'll take it, they've managed to twist my arm............. hahaha just off to the bank.

Thanks for all your kind comments, as soon as I get another I promise to spend more time on here.

With regards to the buy back I'll keep you posted, as I would like to get it on some skates then up in the air, to have a good look at the damage.

Ps. You're all vultures:hahaha:
