What RPM does the intake flap open when not in sport mode?

I'm retrofitting the intake flap to my CSL intake on my non CSL M3, which means I'm going to have to control it with a window switch (like is traditionally used in nitrous setups) instead of the ECU. That said, I'd like it to open at whatever RPM BMW decided was best-- what RPM is that?

Thanks in advance! :smt055

It depends on whether the sport button is pressed or not.

Without, I think it opens well over 6K and without its about 2.5K. This is a rough guess and I know someone more talented will be along soon with a more accurate (read 'perfect') answer.

Good luck with that, I'm not sure how she'll run without mapping.

Go flapless, it's the way forward

I've actually been running the box with a custom tune for the last 8 months.

I think I'm going to control it with a variable window switch. That way I can open the flap full time whenever I want, or flap it as I choose.

I've been running fully flapless since I got it:

And if anyone was curious, here's the benefits from the box alone.

I had a custom tune before and after the box was put on, so this is purely box gains, not tune gains:

How have you managed to get the oil dipstick there and still visible and have the airbox. What is missing that obscures it in the CSL?

Factory dip stick, just rotated. It may be because I don't have my power steering fluid there like you guys do.

I can't remember the official RPM open and closed but when I get home I'm gonna get in the car and check

But when you've finished take it out as it will break ;)

The CSL has the shortened dip stick underneath the snorkel. The standard M3's have longer ones. Also, the SMG reservoir is missing in his car since its a traditional manual. I've relocated that reservoir to where the CSL has it when I installed the airbox

If memory serves (I remember reading it somewhere, I'll try and dig it out when I have time)

Sport On - 3200rpm open

Sport off - 5600rpm open

I've got a flap but not any of the housing or mechanical bits.

I will be installing an OEM CSL INtake on my Euro M3 soon, My Mechanic is a BMW Master tech and I'll ask him to hook my flap up to a button from where I can open or close it manually.

I think it might be a better idea to just leave it openn all the time? Suggestions fella's?
