AP BBK problem

Hi guys just wondering if any of you AP owners have experienced a rattling sound from the rear brakes which goes away when applying the brakes? This is driving me nuts. Have just replaced rear hub bushes thinking that was the culprit as there was a bit of play but the problem is still there. I have standard discs on the rear with ap calipers and ferrodo ds2500 pads. Could the pads be rattling inside the calipers? Any advice appreciated!

Pad rattle 99.9%
Mine does it all the time. It used to do my head in. I never found a solution

The anti rattle clip will be missing or in the wrong way round.

Search for photos on here.

Get some solid mounts and you wont notice it again ;)

I had an annoying clicking sound that could be heard at low speeds and went away when on the brakes. Swapped the DS2500 for RS29 and that problem has gone only to be replaced by squeel :hahaha:

Shimmy don't suppose you have more info on this? I can't seem to find any pics. Cheers.

I had something similar and it turned out the anti-rattle clip was rubbing on the back of the pad. Hard to explain but couple of minutes with a die grinder, bit of black paint and it was good as new. Was making a hellish squeaking noise you could hear when travelling at slow speeds.

There's an orientation arrow on the retaining clips, it should be pointing up, in the direction of rotation and the convex part should be pressing against the pad, thus holding it in tight to the caliper and stopping the pad rattling... sounds good, but I could be wrong.

My problem was, the hole in the middle of the clip was a fraction too tight for the wee removal tap on the pads, and in turn was making it squeak.

Pip1968 02-05-2014 09:43 AM

I always wondered which way round the arrow faced ie up or down. Frequently changing the pads for track days from DS 2500 (before anyone says, I have never had a problem with them) to Pagid RS-29s I did look for photos but even on the AP Racing site I could not find anything definitive.

What would happen if the arrow was pointing down though? I am sure the rattle clips are symmetrical in their curvature so .... -???

I don't think rears have arrows, they can only fit one way up but They can be put in concave rather than convex and not trap the pad

Ah rears. I skim read the first post. I have only had the fronts apart.

Right I checked the anti rattle clips. They are placed correctly. Rear left wheel is still making this clunking sound with every rotation of the wheel (it clunks at the same point every rotation). Also it only happens when gong forwards and not in reverse. Help!

Are you sure it's not the stone guard? Give it a whack with the hammer and see if it goes away temporarily

I've also had this exact same problem - a clicking sound on every rotation and rattling pads on the front. I called AP, who supplied me with a new anti-rattle clip and retaining spring, which Gareth at Elms duly fitted. It solved the problem. :supz:

Have you checked your wheel nuts / bolts?

I had this (on the front nearside) at the first track day I did in the CSL, and was convinced it was something stuck in the disc / caliper, went to take the wheel off to check and found that all the nuts were loose on that wheel :smt120

Good that the wheel didn't go off.

Nice result. Which way round for the clips ? The instructions show the arrow pointing down...but I trust Gareth.

If only I knew. A nice man at AP sent the new springs and clips to me, I took the box to Gareth, he worked his magic. Sorry not to be of more help.

Now who took down that funny thread about NJ earlier today?!

chris83d 09-06-2014 11:19 PM

Right. Still no joy with this. However, after fitting Pagid RS29 pads today the clunking noise on every rotation has gone but had been replace with what sounds like pad rattle when going over bumps and every time I apply the brakes. This is still coming from the rear left wheel only...

Look on the disc, there will be a slight mark, what's happening is as the disc rotates and that mark comes around, it lifts the pad slightly to the extent of its limited clearance in the caliper, and then drops it with a click solution is to turn the radio up ...simple my work here is done !:hahaha:
