CSL in EVO Mag

Possibly been seen before - but good quaility scans and a bit of M3 / CSL chatter.

thx - nice recap of their initial review. Later reviews EVO pinned the CSL with its deserved 5 STARS. :smokin:

I've got this issue and the subsequent ones where they finally 'got' the CSL and even rated it over the E30 M3 :smokin:
The issue in question has 'hardcore' on the cover in case anyone looks for it on eBay.

Did you read the forum thread? :-D

Apparently the CSL is 100k in the US and has carbon brakes...

When Yanto said he was multitasking I had visions of him with the mag stuck to the head board. Bet the mrs was pleased.

E30 m3 sport evolution was rated 1st
2nd was e46 m3 CSL with ap racing brakes
3rd was e39 m5
Evo magazine m group test in 2007

there's another one where it was against the GTS, E30 M3, E36. I think I posted that one IIRC.

If it's the one I have (Oct 2010), then the GTS was featured in the mag, but not included in the M3 group test, it was the E92 M3 Comp Pack they used. Also, I feel they included the wrong E36, as a LHD GT Coupe probably would have been a better fit than the Imola "GT2" Individual

Anyway, the final paragraph sums it up as:

"Ironically, given the E30 is perhaps the definitive homologation special, it's the E46 CSL that delivers the rawest and most explicit road-racer experience. The Sport Evo is a far subtler device, chock-full of latent pace and aggression, but mild-mannered and malleable. Personally I'd love to own either (or preferably both), but for very different reasons. As a car to covet, cosset and revere, the Sport Evo can't be beaten, but if you crave adrenalin, aural violence, oversteer and maximised potential, a well-sorted CSL is a compelling prospect. If you simply crave a cast-iron investment, you can't go wrong with either." - Richard Meaden (owner of a 964 RS)
