CSL register Driver Training Day

Right guys & gals!

Having benefited from attending a Sprint training session with the outfit that is CAT Driver Training
I thought it would be a nice idea to try and arrange something a little similar for the members of this register. probably within the stunning surroundings of Milbrook test facility :smokin:

CAT organise training days on the MLR, who some of you may know through the SPA/Ring trip etc.. Unfortunately I cannot make their next event in March hence why im trying to get a day sorted where we can benefit too :-D

I am awaiting a response back regarding numbers needed to put on an event like this. Going by previous times I would estimate between 8-10 people.

Please feel free to view this thread from the MLR to get more of a picture of what the day entails and what you get for your money.

Its a great opportunity to experience on the limit and beyond what your CSL can do in relative safety..

Please add names if your interested, then I can get the ball rolling

Thanks Wes

I have to stop looking at that MLR website, I just found an absolutely cracker of an EvoVIII with as-near-as-500bhp-as-it-matters in Aberdeen for not alot of money. <15K

This is where I expect ex-Evo owners to talk me out of doing something really silly...I need to get home and get the CSL out soon. I must be loosing my marbles out here. :clown:

Andyk 03-02-2009 08:09 AM

My Mate has done this and said it was a great day and he enjoyed it more than a track day...made him much more confident on track after.

dave1 03-02-2009 09:28 AM

That does sound expensive, but on reading the below, it might worth it...........

Full event details in CAT's own words.

Performance Driver ‘Track’ Day

An action-packed day run by CAT Driver Training Ltd at Millbrook Proving Ground.

CAT Driver Training is run by Colin and Jo Hoad. Colin used to work for a leading motor manufacturer in the UK as a Vehicle Evaluator and Driver Trainer and has gained extensive experience and qualifications in driver instruction including relevant approved roadcraft training as well as the infamous Nurburgring in Germany. His life has been spent working with his passion: motor cars - from racing minis to the race preparation of performance cars. He has much experience of vehicles on both road and track and brings a very different approach to driver enjoyment.

The day is a fast moving experience for 8 owners and their cars to introduce the secrets of performance driving. It is designed to be informative, exciting and fun. The group size is purposefully kept small so that the maximum can be obtained from the day in a highly personalised environment.

There is access to the 5 unique circuits at the renowned Millbrook Proving Ground, a venue that is not normally accessible for ‘track days’ and the general public.

Activities designed for the different circuits are:
Learn ‘threshold’ braking from 100+mph on the ‘Mile Straight’
High speed driving, potentially to the maximum of your car, on the banked circuit of the ‘High Speed Bowl’
Drive the demanding ‘Alpine Route’ circuit with its hills, and variety of corners from hairpins to long and sweeping
Take on the tight, twisty and challenging ‘Handling Circuit’
Put a car through its paces on the wide open spaces of the ‘Steering Pad/Mile Straight Apron’
An instructor will accompany you on all the circuits, and the objective is to teach you how to get the best from your car and develop your performance driving skills in a controlled environment and at a pace you are comfortable with.

Short presentations in vehicle dynamics will help you to understand the relationship between driver input and vehicle balance and control. From this comes the appreciation of how to safely drive your vehicle at ‘grip limit’ within the controlled confines of a track environment.

At the end of the day, your new found skills can be put to the test in a timed ‘shoot out’ around a gymkhana-style course laid out on the ‘Steering Pad/Mile Straight Apron’. This will be conducted in one of CAT Driver Training’s track prepared cars (normally a Subaru Impreza or a Caterham 7).

Included in the day are:
Professional in car tuition
Access to 5 unique circuits at Millbrook Proving Ground
Mechanical support from a professional race engineer
Lunch and refreshments during the day
Timed end of day ‘shoot out’ in one of CAT’s track prepared cars
Full emergency services on hand all day
1½ hours driving time with your personal instructor
Price £375 per person

Performance Driver ‘Track’ Day Schedule

08:30 – 09:15 Coffee, Introduction, Licence Check, Scrutineering, Safety Briefing & Objectives of the Day
08:15 – 08:20 Drive to Circuits

Looks class - shame its a 600 mile trip for me :(

sailorbaz 03-02-2009 06:52 PM

Aye, make a thing of it. Head down (for us Northerners) early doors during the day before, meet up for some drink action and swatch at some induction flaps etc, up early for some CSL drifting action etc etc.

Could be great craic!

Oh, just noticed, SMD has made 422 posts, that number rings a bell... :notworthy:

dave1 03-02-2009 06:54 PM

I'll consider it if there's a few up my end going.

15:10 – 16:00 Gymkhana timed ‘Shoot Out’ – Steering Pad/Mile Straight Apron

This sounds good! See who is fastest on the register! :hahaha:

2bar boost 03-02-2009 10:06 PM

Having received an email back from CAT, they are happy for us to run a day at Milbrook

The cost will be £375 per person providing we can get 8 confirmed parties.
This is an event that I have wanted to do for a long time and if we can get enough people I dont see it being a problem of being able to run another day later on in the year.

Im hoping that if it goes well that a good relationshp could flourish between the CSL register and CAT, enabling us to have access to some of the best training and facillities in the UK :smokin:

As work has been a bit hectic, im hoping to get something in the pipeline by the weekend..

I would appreciate feedback on any dates that would be good for you guys, I know were not going to be able to please everyone but it would be nice if I can try :notworthy:
Once everything is finalised I will add a new thread in Events

Maybe best after the CSL Ring Trip? :-D

glendog74 04-02-2009 01:11 AM

Nice one 2bar boost

I'm still very interested and think the price is actually pretty reasonable for tuition. I paid £450 back in November for a Don Palmer day and although good fun I think the CAT day offers a few more experiences and sounds like a good day out at Milbrook. :smt023

Count me in - i can do anytime, ideally weekends but Monday or a Friday is easy enough for me to take a day off work

Trawler has done both CAT and Don Plamer I believe and he said that the CAT day was far better.

June's good

Trawler 06-02-2009 08:01 AM

Having done a few couses in the uk & two days with BMW at the Salzburg Ring I can safely say the CAT training was the best. I will be returning for more. A question to ask yourself is what do I want to get out of a course? Correct steering, braking, etc. If you cannot answer that then you may be disapointed with any course. I´m skiing at the moment so I may not be able to answer any questions straight away
