Company Logo - opinions

Im considering the following as a company logo. Its taken from my family crest, the original has a belt wrapped around it with latin on it - feel thats too much detail for letterheads and decals on vehicles (vans and plant). Dont want the logo to be related to what we do. Simple, Unique and Recognisable is what Im aiming for.

Does it look classy, or does it look like something you'd get stuck on the side of a wagon? The Lion will most likely be red.

RichW 23-01-2009 07:47 PM

I like it both ways, good logo, no preference on colour for me :)

bryce 23-01-2009 08:06 PM

Black with Red tongue...

Family Tartan through Lion ( should I have kept the sword? ) Tartan wouldnt show up well on letterheads.

Thanks for your input.

My vote still gets the all black...just looks a bit more classy.

Being a graphic designer, I have to ask, does it have any relevance to what your company actually does, or does it reflect in any way the impression that you want to give to your clients/customers both current and potential?

cslgirl 30-01-2009 11:42 AM

Yup still prefer all black

englebert 30-01-2009 11:44 AM

Also a designer... i like the simplicity of the black too. It looks classy.

The style looks very established too, but please don't ruin it with such an off the peg font like Times New Roman.

Our company has the same logo in different colours for different things.

Yeah, good point. Looks like an MS Word template type effort with Times.

Could be quite nice as a foil on your cards/stationery depending if you're a tight-wad or not!

Here's our card with a black foil on GF Smith 540g duplex board...

It has no relevance to what we do, its my family clan crest. I dont want it to have anything to do with what I do either, as I plan to go into other lines of business but have the logo recognisable as 'bryce's company'.

Englebert puts it well, and I feel it has that 'established' look, which I like.

I just used MS paint to quickly doo it. I know, it looks rough.

Any recomendations on fonts? Where do you graphics lads get them from?

Any tips/ idea's on the logo are welcome from you professionals. :smt023

Thanks.

Thanks.

Best tip I can give, without sounding too much of an arse, it to go and pay a designer/agency to do it. There's a lot more to designing a logo/brand than playing with MS Paint, picking a font, then bunging the lot top-left on an A4 piece of paper and calling it a letterhead.

Shouldn't cost you more than £500 for print-read artwork.

You wouldn't try and paint your own car would you....?
