Day at Donny with ONeill

Had a sneaky day at Donington on Monday with Barry on an RMA Trackdays day. we waited for the good weather and found out when we got there, they had only about 20 cars on track

So we had a full day, empty track, sunshine and fun ahead.

Managed a double garage between us, buit cold to start but abig breakfast got us in the mood!

Overall i did 96 laps, mostly way past the liit of my ability and I am gobsmacked i stayed in one piece tbh.

Overall i snuck a bout 20 laps in the 1m19s and best time was a 1m19.1s whereas Bazza managed to squeeze in a 1m18.9s :smt055:smokin:

Overall though i was happy with the day, managed to knock 0.5s off my previous best, got closer to Bazzas best time and lookin at my data with the clear laps I was much more consistant that before. If you look at the dat you MAY JUST NOTICE that on my best lap my Craners sector was way slow and any other lap swapped for that sector would have gained my minimum 0.2s :smokin: and my IDEAL THEORECTICAL best lap for th eday was 1m17.9s

Something to aim for in the future.

Here is the video, a bit shakey!

20 cars !!!! Sweet !

Good times Shim, usual twitch on that bend :gayfight:

That Harry's lap timer seems good, do you think you could set it up properly to get past race Marshalls?

of course, caterham and mx5 guys use GoPros so why not.

Unfortunately laptimes are a bit quicker on Harrys due tot he crappy iphone GPS (1hz) whereas VBoxlite is 5hz and VBox 10hz.

That fastest lap was 0.06s faster on Harrys and ive seen it gain 1 sec at Spa compare dwith vBoxLite

Great day out, if Carlsberg did track days it would be with RMA:thumbs:

Relaxed atmosphere, good breifing as in short and to the point also overtaking on both sides which felt strange at first.

It felt strange at the end as well!:smokin:

Wish I had a picture if te guy with the M3 - nice young chap but mystified why his 485bhp lightweight beast was being ragged by two standard CSLs.

LOL! Don't they all  You're super funny sometimes Shimmy

_Nathan_ 30-04-2013 11:53 PM

Looking good shim.

Vbox lite is 10hz though, if using 1hz then can be miles out, easy over a second.

Vbox sport will make Harry's 20hz.

Bealo 01-05-2013 12:21 AM

Good report and i'm glad to hear the two of you have a great day

Good times there...

I'm not jealous of you both being stuck on this oil rig :banghead:

3wheels3 01-05-2013 02:17 AM

Looking good shimmy car seems to turn in really well

Still waiting to hear from you regarding a price...

I want one of the Vbox sport for the road trip

5hz adapter for iPhone is a cheap solution.

Shimmy - have you compared the same laps vbo export in circuit tools to see the difference?

alexk 01-05-2013 01:38 PM

I have a qstarz bluetooth GPS receiver with has a 10Hz chip.
This gives you accuracy of 100ms.
The 1Hz have 1sec accuracy and 5Hz have 200ms accuracy.

northernjim 01-05-2013 02:53 PM

Good times Shim, but like you say - into the 18's is gay :hahaha::gayfight:

you are way way faster than me before you get upset...

Yes I think you could do Steve, you need to find a big phone case that you can drill thru- I've seen it done :-)

Edited for my brain, which prefers this way of looking at it!

Sounds like a great day! Very jealous.:finga: Great times both.

Always seems to be the way with supercharged M3's. Not a surprise.:smokin:

Mike...........what was that about wanting extra power?;)

deanobeano 01-05-2013 07:47 PM

Excellent!
My last track day (a long time ago 2001!) was in my yellow 210bhp S3.

YouTube clip was shaky! Have you got wood chocks on your suspension!!

Makes me want to do 'just one more' now I have Cesil, besides, I need to wear down the new 265/35 rears that it is currently shod with.

Track options for a midlander?

s.mac 01-05-2013 07:56 PM

Not sure about overtaking on both sides with some of the blind drivers you get track days:(

s.mac 01-05-2013 07:58 PM

I use a go pro but it would be good to see a bit of data. Don't want to spends loads on a set up, I need to save my money for all the repairs :(

Rumour is that Kev left the UK and races in Nascar now, such a great loss to British motorsport (and M3 cutting forums) :bigcry:

From what i heard you have more Cups in stock than Michelin!!, another rumour is that you idle the winter nights away burning em out to keep the garage warm :-D

Someone better stop starting all these rumours

Open Track do offer black cross on yellow background sticker, some thing for every one to aim for

Kerbs are all part of the track rules for a good line

3wheels3 03-05-2013 04:15 PM

Curbs at Donny are fairly flat except the chicane although the way the touring cars hit even those ones you'd think they weren't there!

Do not go on the ring, thinking the kerbs are the same height as uk track kerbs:bigcry:

There are a few that are 'accepted' to take, but still they are not tiny.

I popped a damper jumping off one at pflanzgarten once:whistle:
