Hi. Tried to load image of snapped Spring, but not sure how to do that . £4. Fix for all owners that have had SMg failures, Spring sits in side of gearbox, held in place behind knock in plug. Did fix on my csl after loads of pissing about with SMg pump etc. In the end just a spring did the job Chad

Top Spring that sits behind knock in plug, pushes pin with barrel bearing, the one that's a twat to fit.
Still' better than SMg pump, gearbox etc. DIY £4. Chad

Hi mate
What were the symptoms before you narrowed it down to the busted spring ?

Hi Matt problem I got ,when changing gears be ok for first few changes, then go to false neutral no drive and cog light on. Role to side of road, stop motor leave for a few mins Ignition back on, would alway be able to re select neutral for restart. Drive off again, Then just repeat same fault over and over again. Took me about four hrs to do, as you need to drop prop etc to get to side of box,and lower gearbox as far as possible to to pry out knock in plug to get to Spring, Knowing what I know now that F ..kin £4 Spring should always be first job with any SMg fault Chad

Hope info can save owners some cash. Have spent a lot of time pulling smg pump completely to bits, changed gps switches, changed clutch slave cylinder and I 'think' worked out how it all works now, it's a very clever but simple system macanicly. And it can all be put back together without having to run fancy programs, am prity sure a lot owners have spent a lot of cash on needless smg pumps and gearboxes, when a simple Spring would have done the job

Just think of it as a busted front coilover spring , fooked up preload, going into a bend hot, car bouncing all over the place. That's what smg gearbox does if that little spring snaps , tried to explain it simply  ps shimmy any races planned for oulton park
