What would you buy?
 
£40k budget.

GTR......higher running costs putting me off slightly, but I can get an 09 model for £35k, which is reasonable value. Will it lose much more?
Heavy on tyres, brakes and fuel. But great fun, and epic fast, especially with 600bhp. Which I can get to for £1200 ish. Great euro gt cars too.

E92 M3dct......approx £30 to £33k to buy, but i fear will depreciate quickly?
Great road car, pretty quick on track too, just a little heavier than the csl. But has that M feel, and nice place to be, I imagine would be great to travel to europe in.


A45 AMG
.......new, good advert for my business, but with a few options is £42,640, will depreciate quickly I fear, and will I hate the fwd feel? Bit of unknown, although seems to be trouncing the m135i in all arenas ATM,

Cayman R PDK....... Great car,pretty quick, good residuals, but not very practical, I really want something that the 2 nippers can fit in the back of.

Now discount the csl as that is on the list, but for reasons of impartiality, I thought it best not to include in the list (for now)

Car will be used mainly for euro jaunts, ring and spa trip, occasional trackday.

Alternatives welcome, but must be auto spastic/dual clutch etc

Hmmm tough call there, id kinda opt for the GTR over the M3 simply for the extra grunt and the epic handling though the M3 will be more 'fun' when on it.

Id throw in a 1M as it has bits of all of the above, massive grunt, fun handling and is an M car.

Have you driven a GTR and a DCT M3? I considered the GTR before I bought the CSL, due to all the rave reviews. I really wanted to like it, as it appeared like it would do everything I wanted out of a car (fast road, track, long distances and the 'ring).

In standard format, it just didn't feel quick and the engine noise when it changed gears was like a slush box (I hate that kind of autobox tone change with a passion). It also felt nervy at big speeds (admittedly the suspension was on the hardest setting) and it's a very big car and so it is the weight that really sanitises the performance. As a by-product of this, it consumes the consumables (discs, pads and tyres) at a vast rate of knots when you start to abuse it - all of which leads to REALLY high running costs. Also, when used on track, you have to keep any eye on the transmission temps, if the oil goes over 125 deg, it HAS be changed, or Nissan will not warrant the transmission if a high temp is logged and it isn't renewed. However, it did nothing for me and sounded like a washing machine - I think they'd have to do an "RS" style version for me to be able to overlook this aspect.

If you're going for the M3, you'd probably want the Competition version - still the same issues as the GTR (weight), but it instantly needs aftermarket brakes and seats if you're going to use it like the CSL, as the standard ones are the usual M let-down, and it seems to be more of a GT car than a focused driver's car.

I've not driven the Cayman PDK and have no desire to - despite it being one of the best Porsches in cuurent production, as I like my Porsches to have the engine in the wrong place and with a manual 'box, although the new 991 GT3 is the first PDK car I have ever lusted after.

I realise you have to have something that changes gear for you, but the CSL really is rather special, even in this elevated company and I can't think of anything else suitable.

Ive owned both mike, gtr is transformed with a different exhaust. I agree it is far too muted standard.

It is heavy and I know heavy on brakes, fuel, tyres. But still a great machine. Although ultimately I feel I will get better reward from an M3.

If I bought m3 I would put brakes, seats and suspension, much like I would do with csl.

Decisions.

I am tempted for another csl, would love to come kick shimmys ass:thumbs:

135i is 10k cheaper than Merc, you'd hope it was being beaten!

Nothing useful to add other than ditch the nippers and get a CLK Black with the gearbox mods :smt055

Out of the 4 cars you mention in that list, you've had 2 ... the GTR & E92 M3 . It's probably best to ask yourself the important question... WHY? you SOLD them in the first place.
With regards to the other 2 ... No to Cayman R as it's only 2 seater (despite being a decent motor) and just forget the A45 as it's: Wrong wheel drive, boring 4 pot and I'm guessing here but I can see you selling it within a week of buying it. I'd rather have the BWM M135 anytime and they are great value.

What about another 911 Turbo Pork Tip ? 4 seater of sorts. The silver 996 Turbo you had few years ago went well :thumbs: Can U get into a very early 997 Gen 1 @ £40K yet ?
