OK cleaning continues, is it as simple as it looks to remove the front black plastic that covers the bottom of the engine...want to get all the wax off it seems easier off the car than on.

Solved the problem with the rust in the brake discs, pics tomorrow after I finish the first one to see if you all approve.

Also want to remove the offending, rusting (hardly) rear muffler box so I can get it coated with a hight temp paint is that just a matter of undoing the flange bolts and then the taking the 2 nuts off the rubber blocks at the sides???

Thanks

mole 23-05-2010 02:27 PM

Yep the 4 flange bolts, and the 6 bolts that hold the rubber mounts to the car.
Be careful it weighs 25kg!!!

glendog74 23-05-2010 03:26 PM

The plastic under tray is easy to remove as you rightly suspect. ;)

Not many to get a guide on as only 24 were delivered and at least 2 have gone to god.

Hi mate,

there were 27 all together from BMW Australia... i used to own the 3rd one... great car and I saw your car on the internet for a couple of weeks, was really tempted to get it... but wife didn't like the idea...

Great purchase mate for 150K since it was 240K back in 2003/04!

cheers,

richie

Seems to be a few different figures going around about how many, I had heard 24 from 3 different sources so your 27 is new information. Guess I'll check with BMW at some stage to clarify for sure. Fron CSL to Gallardo S nice!!!! I'm jealous.

At that list price guess that make the $140k purchase price even better:wink:

27 is definitely correct... 'insider information'... 2 black and 25 grey...

there was a 360 in between the the CSL and the Gallardo... and if I could, I would have grabbed that CSL of yours... very good buy mate and keep on to it, it will definitely keep its value (at least here in australia)!

cheers,

richie

I would like to make it 28! What are my chances of bringing mine over as a presonal import later this year? Just to increase the numbers of Black ones!

Had a quick look on the DOTARS web-site, but don`t fully understand??

In point 5 which of the criteria do you meet to import a car, if its none your f....ed:bigcry: or are you going to be point 7 a visitor for an extended time?? Then I can figure it out from there.

your car won't be the 28th.... since there are a few imported CSL in Australia already from what I learnt from the forum...

if you are migrating over here, you can definitely bring the car with you, tax free that is... I believe Mark knows about that.. best of luck!

Not so Richie if he hasn't owned the car for the 12 months prior he definately cannot bring it in no matter what he intends to do in regard to permanent Aussie status etc.

That's correct.... he has to own the car for at least 12 months before he can bring it over duty free... :)

Marc,

Good to know that you are enjoying your CSL, I missed the car since you took it off my hands... and it is great to know that it goes to a really caring owner :)

I get bored with all my cars quite easily somehow, but the CSL is the only car that I miss after selling it believe it or not... probably that's also why I love this CSL community so much :smt055

cheers and take care!

richie

Mark CSL 01-06-2010 08:20 AM

I do like Lambos you car looks cool

edylcreyob 03-06-2010 03:00 PM

Had the car to BMW service today removed every fluid and changed them for new. I had the technicians in a flap, many had never seen a CSL let alone one that had done 900 odd kms.

Now what to do about tyres as it rains a lot here in Melbourne...perhaps just drive it on sunny days but tyres are 7 years old and despite lack of use are probably past their use by date.

mole 03-06-2010 03:01 PM

Go out and finish the cups......... then replace with fresh cups

thegingerninja 04-06-2010 09:36 AM

Bin them, they will be past their best. Buy another set of wheels and have one set with cups, and one set with normal road tyres.

edylcreyob 04-06-2010 09:50 AM

Who does the best replica CSL wheels real ones cost way too much down under and much better to kerb the cheapies.

glendog74 04-06-2010 09:54 AM

I fitted a front pair of part worn '7 year old' Cup tyres at the Spa track day recently (they were removed from a new CSL back in 2003).

Although they felt hard, they did perform surprisingly well after some warming

I have owned the car for nearly 2 years now and have permanent Aussie status.

I plan to head out end of this year, any advise, website etc. would be a huge help guys??

Thanks

edylcreyob 05-06-2010 12:58 AM

Well you won't have any problems on what I have read then....I assume its RHD...no duty just need to apply and that should be that.

That will mean 27 minus 3 plus 1 = 25 cars in the country!!!;)

edylcreyob 05-06-2010 01:01 AM

All you need to kow is contained in the general information section, part 5 personal imports.

NZ_M3 05-06-2010 06:32 AM

Which Melbourne dealership did you go to? I've got a good BMW technician friend that moved over to work in Melbourne last year - highly recommend him if you take in your CSL (he's familiar with them too as he used to work on mine on some occassions)

edylcreyob 05-06-2010 01:35 PM

I go to Stillwells..have done so for a while as I had an E39 540 and now an E 60 540.

Thanks for the heads up but I don't anticipate the CSL needing to visit the doctor again for quite a while

phat///M3 06-06-2010 12:16 PM

I wish I could move to Australia :banghead:

Stillwell is not bad.. I go to Doncaster as I know nearly every old faces there (been their customer for over 15 years)... They do have a few CSLs there, so if you have any problem, let me know, I can hook you up with some good technicians :)

if you want to buy some cup tyres, let me know, I got mine quite cheap, should be able to get you a set cheap in hawthorn :)

enjoy the car mate!

cheers,

richie

edylcreyob 07-06-2010 08:35 AM

Thanks for the heads up...yes think I will need to do something with the tyres so may be in touch

NZ_M3 07-06-2010 11:46 AM

Richie

Can you post or PM me cup prices from Australia as a comparison - just want to see if it's cheaper than importing from the States.

Thanks.

Stunning pics mate, I don't know how I missed this one! Lol :smokin: :smokin:

I can't believe people are running down these kind of cars, it's each to their own surely and doing something different is what keeps life interesting, I had a full on concours car a few years ago and loved looking after it, I also now love keeping the CSL up to standard but driving that instead, I'm personally glad people do get their cars in this condition as otherwise we wouldn't have the pleasure of seeing them! :whistle:Keep it up guys, great to see!

Had it out for some exercise today getting the hang of the SMG....when i arrived back home and parked it in the garage and looked at the speedo this is what I saw.

I'm pretty sure it wont take as long to see a 2 as the starting number as it took to get to 4 figures!!!!!

sailorbaz 20-06-2010 12:55 PM

Full tank of Fuel too!!! To think that car is only on it's... what, 4th tank of fuel! Some of us use 4 tanks a day at the Ring!

Possibly only 2 - 1000km = 600mls or so.
