I'm running Dunlop Wintersport 3D 225/50/R17 on my E46 M3 both front and rear for the last two winters and they work fine. I went for bigger tyre (stock size is 225/45/R17) in order to keep the clearance higher, though car's slick view is suffering big time with such narrow tyres but c'est la vie. Too lazy to make spacers for the winter period. Grip is all I need.

rve, skinnier winter tyres are better as you get more purchase. very sensible move. bet it makes the handling good fun in dry too as more likely to break away the traction.
some more 18s up on cutters: http://forums.m3cutters.co.uk/showthread.php?t=90704 |
Mini now has 4x Nokian WDR3 Winter tyres and steel wheels in black for £403.00
Fitted today, no clearance issues on the Cooper S bit I'm guessing the speedo will run high but I won't tell the wife., it will confuse her. Higher sidewals, as ever makes the ride much more comfy. Now can't wait for snow. |
Went Vred Wintrac Extreme 235/35 - 265/30 on the 19" multi spokes, going on tomorrow pm (well later today) !

both our cars now on winters. wife's a3 had them on early nov and done the q5 today.
q5 drives so much better on the winters. Higher side walls and softer tyres. Seems to have better mpg too. bring on the snow :-) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rMydHJNzlvQ DO NOT PUT 2 winters on your car and then leave 2 summers on the other axle. |
