T$

I was charged for 3 by the good people at Cooper Reading, and the local indy also mentioned that the oil comes in a set of 3x1litre packs. Apparently it only takes 2.something litres to fill it up.

The oil is in 0.5 lt packs and you need 3 (which means 1.5 litres).

Ah, OK, that makes more sense. Very expensive oil then...

Yes pricey stuff, luckily paid for normally by BMW

I had my diff changed under warranty a year ago because it was noisey. Low frequency whine similar to a wheel bearing. Well that noise has started on the new diff so being looked at on Tuesday whilst in for an oil service. I bet they never changed the oil on the new diff!

So I ask once again then. If I go into BMW and ask them to replace my differential oil with the new stuff should they do it as a recall/ under my warranty or will I have to fork out?

I would expect that they do it for free (as there is a service bulleting).

Most know that this oil exists and have it in their cars BUT i never imagined for a minute that new diffs being supplied now would not have it in

So get it sorted - should be free if diff was under warranty

The same happened to me, the original oil comes with/in the diff and they don't
use the modified oil if not reminded it seems! (approx £90 for the oil)
Thought it was just me having bad luck :(
Good call Shim

*** Quick update ***

After BMW UK gave Murketts the green light, I've finally had my Diff oil upgraded to to newer, more expensive stuff F.O.C., but only because my diff is still very shiny :smokin: with less then 100 miles on it
Apparently anyone who's about to have their Inspection 2 Service done, needs to confirm with their servicing dealer that the newer oil is being used. Everyone else who's quite some time away from an Inspection 2 service and wants the Newer Diff oil, will need to pay for it :smt085

Interesting stuff - mine has only done about 50 miles on it's new diff, so I better get in touch with BWM. Thanks for the heads up.
